Does the dorm phone allow local calls without setting up service, or does it not work at all? ...if so do we need to bring a phone?

There are no phones in the dorms.

You should either bring your own cell phone from home, or purchase one here. Make sure the cell phone is GSM.

Once you arrive, you can activate your phone with Cable & Wireless, Digicell, or AT&T wireless.

When you say GSM...what does that mean? I was told that if I brought my SIM based cell phone that it would work fine. I know there is a newer card on the market but mine isn't even a year old. Do you know if it will work? thanks

im coming down on the 25th, but I know that for sure, I have a friend at school who is a 3rd semester now, so this info is reliable

I've been trying but good lord there are a lot of pages. I'm addicted already. I just found this place yesterday. I was up till 2:30 this morning and only got through the first two pages.
