for those of you currently using (or have in the past) used the vonage phone, is there a delay in the conversation similar to that of using an internet phone? what are some of the disadvantages of the services? I am SERIOUSLY considering this option but i want to know what i am getting myself into as well. thanks for any help!

i think that i am the only one using it, it works great, there is no delay, the only prb is that sometimes (maybe 10% of the time) it doesnt work because of internet here at the dorms (i am thinking the bandwidth usage spikes affect it, but i am not 100%). another alternative is www.iconnecthere.com they are just as good and instead of paying a monthly you pay as you go, but you can not receive incomings, you can only dial out to the US.

I signed up with Vonage a month ago and have been using it here in States and the service is awesome, no delay at all, its just like using the regular landline phone

Thanks guys for the response. I remember when the PC-to-Phone option first started there was an annoying delay.

can u recieve calls on vonage here in the caymans? if so how do you go about getting an area code? would it be a US area code or a Cayman one? Thanks

You get to pick an area code, so while I am still here in US, I signed up and chose my home area code (718), so now I have a local number and people when call me they don't get charged at all. And since its unlimited long distance all over US, so its free to call anywhere in US and Canada.
So when I bring Vonage adapter to Caymans, I will still have the same (718) number, and when people will call me it will be just like it was back in the states. But if you are calling (345) area code, which is Cayman area code, then you'll be charged as long distance, that's the only thing, but I think you will have more people to talk to back in the States, so choose your US area code. And you can take that little adapter from Vonage with you anywhere you want, all you need is a broadband internet connection ( school supplies that). So let's say if you go to Europe or anywhere in the world, people can call you from the states and not get charged at all. So that's the deal with Caymans.
Hope it helps
WOW, I can't believe I wrote so much
