is water a problem in the caymans???
i'm assuming since it is a more americanized island that the water purification system would be much better than other islands??
or would we have to drink bottled water??
or use a filter...thanks

Water is not a problem here at all, unlike some other islands (i.e. Dominica).

The Cayman Islands are very modernized/industrialized, rather than "americanized" (lol!). With a host of popular chains (i.e. KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's, Burger King, Wendy's, Quizno's, etc.), you can't go wrong.

All you need to worry about here is passing your classes and studying!

We still need a Starbucks here!!!! I guess Cafe Del Sol wil have to do for now. . .

Listen man....you don't have to worry about water. This isn't mexico (Sorry to all mexican applicants). The only difference between here and the states is that the weather is absolutely wonderful at any time during the year (other than mid august) and people drive on the left side of the road. Everyone speaks english, although when conversing with true caymanians you have to listen very closely. Their English is very very fast and fluctuates in a rhythamic pattern. Kinda like Jamaicans. There is very good food, try the gilatto (its italian ice cream). There is a dollar menu at Burger King and there is an Outback steak house. My favorite resteraunt here in the states by the way. Things are a bit more expensive but you'll get used to it. The only thing you should worry about is preparing for the boards (USMLE). But even then we will be preparing from day one since our finals are actually old USMLE tests, so don't worry be happy. Hopefully we can all do really well on the boards, get into our preferred residency, raise the bar for future SMU applicants and better our futures in the long run.

The final exams are not old USMLE exams. You do take shelf exams which are contain USMLE type questions and are rumored to contain some questions from old exams. The shelf exams count 10% of the grade for the class and there is a final in addition to them.

learn something new everyday...it had been explained up here that the NBME exams were being utilized as the final.

But the 10% was the same.

Thanks K!

They have not been used as the finals for the last 2 semesters. Right now we are taking them week 14 so that the scores can get back in time to be included in the final grade. If they were being used as the final we would effectively have 1 less week of school. Plus, I don't think that there is a shelf for every class
