Im into fitness, and am concerned about a few things. First off, I wasnt at all impressed with the gym at st georges. It was outside with a covering over it, no a/c!!! I cant see lifting or running hard in that heat. Second, are there healthy foods available in Grenada? Can you get cans of tuna, chicken, turkey, etc? I know there is a sports supplement shop where u can buy protein bars and stuff (which Im sure are expensive). Can anyone help me out with this stuff?

As far as the gym, I found the one on campus to be very sub-par as well. I got a membership to the gym in Excel Plaza, which is only a few minutes from campus. I know others who go there as well. It's actually very modern and nice, albeit quite small. The cost is somewhere around US$40/month. Worth it in my opinion.

Although I'm not into protein shakes or health bars anymore, I hear from others that the stuff available in Grenada is VERY expensive and VERY low quality. Even vitamins and supplements are 3X or 4X more expensive there. Plan accordingly.

You can buy canned tuna and chicken (and salmon, which I eat more of) in grocery stores, but again - more expensive than you're used to. There's a good fish market dowtown, which is a lot cheaper than grocery stores, but it's a pain (even with a car) to go down there. Chicken is usually readily available, but (again) more expensive than in the States.

Others can probably give more specific info. Good luck!

I bought myoplex shake packets from vitaglo.com and then brought them to school with me.
Don't waste your money buying stuff at school.

Also, the gym in Excel plaza is great, I find it worth it to not have to wait around for machines. But some peopel are just as happy working out the school "prison yard" gym

Hey all,

I'll probably tour the gym at excel plaza shortly after I get back.
Just wanted to know: does the place get mad busy at certain times of the day, and does anyone know the hours it's open? # of cardio machines?

Cheers all,

Silenthunder

ps. probably going to buy about 5 lbs of powder, and pack them in ziploc bags (probably wrapped in shoppings bags); or I could put it all in a smaller container - I don't know why protein containers are about twice the size they need to be (kinda like potato chip bags :D ) - bloody marketing people!! :D

For those of you who enjoy cooking seafood I have an idea. What you can do is go once at the beginning of the semester and buy fish for a couple of months. If you freeze it doesn't go bad.

When I was down in the islands, I had my vitamins and protein shake/bars shipped from the company direct. I don't remember the comapny's name, but the price was reasonable and the added shipping cost was not too bad. Surf the internet for a little bit and I am sure you can find somebody if you are not willing to lug it down yourself

were you in Grenada?

customs/duties fees differ by country - Grenada charges a pretty penny.

The gym was normally crowded around 5...dinner time. It's good enough to get into shape. I liked going at 10:30 PM.... low crowds and cooler. If you got the fans going...it's fine... better for the mosquitos too.. Go for a good long run during midday... that'll keep you lean. he he. Just kidding.

i have decided that since its august, its about time i started working on my new years resolution from 7 months ago...

is the sgu gym open 24 hrs? what about the gym in excel plaza? is the excel plaza gym comparable to a ballys in terms of equipment?

btw, my resolution this year was to keep my resolution from the previous 5 years (which was to get my chocolate butt in shape)
see you in a week!

Though my info's probably dated now(geez)... I think normally the security guards cleared the place out at midnight.
