Hey all,
I was just wondering if it's true that electric alarm clocks will not work properly down in Grenada, even when a transformer is used to stepdown the voltage?? Do you all use battery powered clocks, and if so, any worries with those?
thanks

Yes, if you use an alarm clock from the states it will not work right, even with a transformer. The power in the states is 60Hz and the power in GDA is 50Hz. Bascially since the clock uses the Hz to calculate time, it will lose 10min/hr. You can solve the problem by buying a clock from a country that uses 50Hz (I have one from Germany) but if there is a power failure, it won't work (obviously - mine has battery backup.) Youre best bet is to use can a battery-powered travel alarm clock. I also use the alarm function on my cell phone. (I am going to need more than one alarm to get me up for the early Term 2 classes)

I bought a Dual Voltage alarm clock
so it handles 110/60 or 240/50.
it also has battery backup, so it's all gravy
and it was pretty cheap. Bought it over on a place on Gerrard St. in Toronto Canada.

I would recommend a battery operated alarm clock. You can get a cheap one and good at Walgreens. It doesn't use up that many batteries so it isn't so bad
