Hi everybody,
My name is Rishad :D and I am a incoming student for September of 2004. The objective of my post today is to narrate my visit on the island. I went down there a couple of weeks ago and I have to admit that I was a little nervous by the new enviornment, however, the people (students and 'locals') there made me feel very welcome. One of the many things that I like about the island is that it is small, relatively quiet and peacful. Everybody knows everybody and I got to know a couple of people right off the bat when I got there. The roads, though are steep (inclines and declines) because of the geographically 'hilly' terrain, so that took and a little getting used to. I got a tour of the campus, classrooms, saw the dorms and, the most valuble part, talked with some of the students. Students told me that they were satisfied with the quality of education they recieved at Saba thusfar. The prof's were easy to get ahold of and cared for the education there were giving there students. In there free time students would go hiking, workout or go running. They told that, of course, you would not have the amenties of home and as long as you are ok with that you will be fine a few weeks into the semester. I have my class schedule already and we have class from 8:00 am to 3:00pm with breaks of course. This includes the lab time for Histology and Anatomy. The class periods are 2 hours with a fifteen minute break in between. Students told me that once you get intergrated in your own class (ie. socializing in the dorms) it becomes a little bit easier away from home. In addition and most importantly, the students told me that since there is really not much to do on the island they end up studying anyway which is good for me!! Anyway, except for the sometimes uncomfortable heat (for me) and the hilly roads, I enjoyed the place and can see myself going there now.
Hope this helps you guys that are thinking about coming or are coming down. Of course this narrative was a vague description so if you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to email me. Hope to hear from you!!
