Hello Everyone,

Had a few questions about the hospitals...and if anyone can answer or give their input that would be awesome...

How on earth do you find out about the different east coast hospitals to do rotations in?

some of my questions are....
which ones are preferable from an education standpoint?
what are some of the differences?
what are the types of areas that they are in, how is the living situation in brooklyn vs nj?
what factors should go in to choosing one over the other?
is each hospital, for example jamaica hospital, considered a clinical center, or do you go to different ones during rotations?

Thanks for all your help....

Hey there, lemme see if can answer some of your questions

1) to find out about the hospitals on the east coast, you can view there web sites or talk to clinical students (like myself) about there experiences... (sorry, vague question, vague answer)

2) From an educational standpoint, they really do vary from hospital to hospital, day to day, person to person... the biggest difference is how much you put into each rotation. If you try really hard, I can't imagine you not learning a lot.

3) some major differences are whether or not you get lectures for just students, whether or not you get to do procedures...

4) some of the hospitals are in nice area's Methodist, barnabas... some not so good.... newark, patterson, jamaica... living situation is expensive... but if you look you can find affordable housing in both brooklyn and jersey...

5) depends on what you want really... if you do your stuff at a clinical center for 3rd year, your more than welcome to do your 4 year at various hospitals to see what it's like at other hospitals. I've found that each group of students at each hospital all have different expereinces... so I personally don't think the hospital makes a big difference...

thanks MD4U for your replies. i guess i was vague in the original post because i was just trying to see people thoughts. here are some more specific questions for everyone...

Which hospitals let you do more procedures?
i know that busy, public hospitals are more inclined let you, but which hospitals are those...

How do I get in contact with students who are in clinicals right now, or have gone through clinicals? to ask them questions...

How do I find out about apartments, rent, expenses and things like that?

Do most people have cars, or not? Im sure it varies depending on whether you are in new york or new jersey...

again, thanks for your help
