:? So I've heard different things from different sources re: Grand Anse dorms. Someone in the housing office said DSL is unavailable, and someone posted that Firefly is up and running. Can anyone answer once and for all:

1) Is Firefly (campus wireless internet access) really up and running in the Grand Anse dorm study room(s)? And if so, what is reception like (ie. are there dorm rooms in range of the signal?)

2) AND, is it possible to get Cable & Wireless to setup DSL in the dorm rooms? Have any dorm dwellers with neighboring rooms tried sharing the cost of a DSL connection by using a wireless access point?

Thanks a bunch!

1) yes, firefly is up and running in the Grand Anse study room... Don't know if you can catch the signal from your dorm room, but guessing probably not.

2) I was in SD 2 last term, and a number of people shared a DSL line through a wireless router. Had to be virtually next door though, reception isn't the greatest through concrete.

Hi,

I'm actually using firefly in the study room of Grand Anse 1 to write this. The connection from a dorm room is spotty, but relatively reliable in the study area.

When I lived in the Grand Anse Dorms Aug 04 before Ivan, we had DSL in our dorm room from Cable and Wireless.
