Hi everybody. Im going to be a junior in highschool and it will be my last year there and then I'm graduating. I'm doing a three year plan in my highschool. I want to apply for the August 05 spot. Im interested in going to St.George medical school. The only problem is I dont know where to start. Should I apply right away or apply after I graduate. Im from the US. Another concern is, hows the classes there. All the classes that people mention in this forum, i never heard of it before. My GPA in highschool is currently 3.5. Thankyou for reading this and really need your help on this.

WHat on earth is your rush. Man you are a junior. Finish HS and then do undergrad, live a little, apply to med school in the US at least 2x and then think about the carib. The carib way is an alternative to those who did not get in to the US not a first choice med school or time saver. SGU to my knoweledge which is limited mind you requires MCAT scores and a degree. So even if you wanted to go here you would have to take the MCAT and in order to take the MCAT you will have to take biology, organic chemistry, physics...etc. So you might as well do your undergrad.
Besides the best way to be successful in medicine is to be prepared mentally and intellectually.
I honestly believe you are rushing things a bit and may be getting over your head, I may be wrong you might be some genius. But you are what 17 years old relax enjoy your life get an undergrad degree and volunteer or shadow a doctor or be an EMT and see if thats what you want because who knows maybe you may find out that medicine isnt what you want to do.
Good luck.

dude...
You're in high school and unless you took alot of college classes in high school you won't even meet the minimum requirements to be accepted (see sgu.edu bachelor's degree required from North American applicants). In addition, you'll need to take MCATs.
There's no harm in being ambitious and if medicine is really what you want to do then definitely you should pursue it. In fact, if you got 50 bucks to waste I would say apply and see what they tell you. Although I already know the answer to that one, maybe you need to hear it yourself.
The other things to consider are: why deny yourself the opportunity to go to a US school? and how are you going to pay for it all? Going to St. George's is not a decision that comes without some thought.
My advice: you sound like a solid high school student...apply to college, go somewhere nice and reputable if you want, enjoy college life, mature a little, do well, take your MCATs and apply to med school in the US. Also, if you haven't already, do some volunteer work in a hospital and get a feel for life in the health care world.
You have time, enjoy it.
Best of luck to you...

If you're looking for the security of knowing you're in med school, you may want to consider the B.S./M.D. programs that are out there. You're in a good position with your GPA and that you're a jr in HS(time to look at the different programs and all). Check out the aamc website for the different programs. IMHO though I am not all that in agreement with these programs , but like someone earlier said, I don't know you and you very well could be a genius, or at least very mature and grounded and be the perfect candidate for these programs.
As much as I am glad that I'm at sgu life would be easier if I had gotten into a US school. Don't pass up the opportunity to get into a US school(sgu will still be here if you can't)
Hope this helps!

The bottom line is that you wont have the same opportunities coming as a grad from an offshore school. Go to college, go abroad there etc. Id have hated to miss out on college personally. Do a 6 year combined program (check brown-most peoplle *love that) if you want.
all the best to you.

I definitely agree you should go to college and enjoy all that. Definitely try hard to get into a US school. But on the other hand, don't waste your life away reapplying to US schools. I didn't get in my first try and I'd rather go to SGU than wait another four years or more to start Med School. Besides, there's no guarantee that if I wait four years to do something with my application to get into a US school that I'd get in anyway. Even worse, I'd have to retake the MCAT, and there's no way I could do as well as I did the first time. True, I think I could get into a US school in four years, but I could also be graduating Med School in four yeats, a position I'd much rather be in, regardless of whether or not there are a few extra steps in the long run. Besides, I'm a New Yorker, and although I enjoy travelling, this is where I intend to stay. Long story short--go to college, apply US, go to the Caribbean if you have to, but don't wait forever to start your life!
