View Full Version : dorming
Hey I never lived in a dorm before...how does it work at SGU? I don't know anyone else that could dorm with me...so does the school assign random people or do they help out by matching us up according to a survey? For people who have experience at the dorms....do you prefer a single or double room and why...I don't mind the cost difference? thanks I appreciate it

Hi,
Chances are you'll live in the superdorms. They rooms are very small. The school does make an attempt to match you up with someone who has similar habits/interests. From my class few students had major problems with their roomates. However ofcourse some people really got a bad deal with their assigned roomate. As anywhere its kind of a gamble.

Hi Mat,
I'm an incoming August student also, and here's what I know about the dorm situation:
Most first termers live in the Superdorms at True Blue. I will be living in a double, which is basically one bedroom with two beds, two desks, two chairs, and two closets. It also has a kitchenette and a bathroom that you share with your roomie.
Some students also live at Grande Anse, where the rooms are bigger, and shared by two people also (I think).
Regarding roommate assignments, the housing department will send you a roommate preference form, on which you identify who you'd like to live with (if you have a specific person in mind). If not, then the form has room to fill out the type of person you'd like to live with (for example, interests, etc.). The housing department will then compare this information to the other people that are looking for a roomie and assign you with someone. Personally, I have found the housing department does very well with making roommate assignments because my roomie and I are a perfect match! Many other students I've talked to have said the same.
Hope this helps! :D
