Hello. A good friend of mine just finished SGU and he told me of a program at SGU where you take two classes instead of 4 for the first semester if you want to or something along those lines but you have to stay at SGU for an extra semester. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks for the input:)

Well...formally...it's called the alternative program....or unaffectionately by students as decelling. Esentially you can take the first two terms in three...or the second two terms in three. It's normally reserved for those with poorer academic credentials, those who experience difficulty with the course material...or by choice. It's a fairly common medical school program alternative that helps ensure that students complete their programs..and fulfill their dreams.

I don't think this statement is true... I'm not sure, but I don't think such a program exists in any US school. In fact, years ago, when SGU was offered AAMC accreditation, one of the stipulations was that they would have to discontinue their "alternate program".
Now, if you're admitted under (or voluntarily choose later) the AP, you will still be a doctor (assuming you succeed at it). How this "looks" to residency programs, or whether they even know about it, I have no idea.

Actually, I know several schools on the east coast that have alternate programs where you finish in 5 years instead of 4. They are not advertised heavily like SGU's.
SGU actually recieved AAMC accrediation before? Tell us more.

this is not something people generally "want" to do; its a program you might find you need to do if you are struggling academicially.

This is interesting. Why isn't SGU accredited?
