Hi, I'm a third year medical student, planning my electives for fourth year. At this point, with the schedule I have planned I will be done with rotations at the beginning of June. Would that be enough time to begin a residency program in California that same year, July?
Thank you

If I remember correctly the administration always tells us to finish in late April no later than may because it takes like 6-8 weeks for the paperwork to get done and it has to be done before you start residency.

If you graduate in June, you will not be able to start residency in July in California. You will not get your California Letter in time to start. If you want to do residency in California, it's an absolute MUST that you graduate in May. Even then, some graduates have been late for residency because even May graduation does not guarantee you will get your Letter by June 25th (start date for many California programs). Not many programs will look very kindly if you cannot start until August while waiting for the Letter. Some folks have been let go from residency programs because of this because if you cannot start residency in time, you've technically violated your contract.
