Yes you can..but you would have to enter their pre-med program as opposed to their MD program!

Yeah, thats what i figured. So how long should it take a Pre-Med to be completed. Like if you wouldn't mind, can you break down the amount of semesters and years it would take total for me. Also, what subjects are taught what year.

Thanks,

-Manish

Well...there are four semesters of pre-med that you have to do..this gives you a total of 90 pre-med credits...as for the breeak down of the curriculum..here it is..the source of the following info is the UNIBE site and their booklet

First Semester:Spanish I, Environment Science, Orientation, Mathematics I, Introduction to Sociology, Sport & Culture, General Biology

Second Semester: Spanish II, Mathematics II, Universal History, Cellular Biology, General Chemistry I, Basic Physics I, Basic English

Third Semester: Dominican History, General Psychology, General Chemistry II, Basic Physics II, Introduction to Computers, Scientific Methodology, Spanish III

Fourth Semester: Spanish IV, Leadership/ Modernization, Organic Chemistry, Biophysics, Technical Medical Spanish, Human Relations, Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology

This will take over 16 months...each semester is four months long and I think you get about 2 weeks off after every semester for a break!

Hope that helps!

The four semesters are only for pre-med afterwards the MD program begins!

Well, I thought I would only be taking Medical related classes. I have already taken biology, sociology, psychology, spanish 1, 2, 3, 4, and even AP!

How long is the pre-med program and the MD?

What is this talk I am hearing about 2-3 years there and clinicals in US?

How can you apply? What do you need? Where do you get all the forms and stuff? Well, if you just graduated from high school and wanted to join the pre-med program that is.

if a student does his pre med in the DR directly from High School
that is he or she does not go to an american university
obtaining a ** or BA, are there any states out there that will not give licensure even if the individual does med school passes all the exams
etc etc

I mean way back in the 80's there were guys coming down to UCE from Florida
with HS or one year of college and became doctors at 22 years old!!!!

I though NYS required university.

when the hell then do students bother wasting 3-4 years of their lives if they know they want to be a doctor?

how would you check this out if a state required it or not

Hi, just go to their website, serach around the link and find a phone number, call them up and they'll mail you the application packet. Then all you have to do is get them a copy of your high school diploma, transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a letter of good conduct from the local police, legalized copy of your birth certificate, and a personal essay and BAM! that's all you have to do. Shouldn't take too long to hear from them provided you keep calling them and asking. Never leave things in their hands, always call and check up and verify, make sure things are moving. BE ANNOYING. Take care and God Bless.

i asked whether or not certain states required a college education
prior to med school

if not
then this could save parents a lot of dough sending you to college
when you could go to pre med and right into med school

My previous reply was to Baller21's question. Here's the answer to your's: check the website for the board of health or whichever governmental body is in charge of physician licensing in the state in which you wish to practice, it shoudl give you a breakdown of the requirements for full licensure in that state both for foreign and domestic grads. In Florida, my state, for example, you have to be at least 21 years of age (which everyone will be by the time they complete their residency), be ECFMG certified, have completed a residency program, AND have completed at least two years of a pre-professional university level education to include anatomy, checmistry and such courses, in other words; at least two years of pre0med work BEFORE you entered into medical school. Now, if you did the pre time AT UNIBE or INTEC or wherever you end up going, I'm not sure if that would fill that requirement since it's considered part of the medical program and it's less than two years in length. I would assume the nitty gritty of the law probably stipulates number of credits, in which case it would boil down to whether or not Floirida would consider that part of the medical program or not. I'm not sure. I suppose if you were to do undergrad and med school at the same university you should be ok, if you work off that vein of logic then in florida you should be ok having completed the pre0med at UNIBE or any other DR school. Nonetheless, it's something work investigating further and making some calls about if you're not done your pre0med in the united states and plan to enter directly into UNIBE or another DR school fresh outta high school.
Further requirements for Florida licensure include not having taken any part of the USMLE more than five times; having taken 7 years or less to pass the three steps of the USMLE (unless you passed each step with 2 or fewer tries, in which case you may exceed that 7 year limit). These are the requirements for Florida licensure. New York has asimilar educational requirement, which maintains that you should have completed 60 hours at a college level in addition to your graduate work.
Here's New York's Link:
http://www.op.nysed.gov/medlic.htm
Here's Florida's link:
http://ww2.doh.state.fl.us/LASNET/Modules.aspx?ProjectID=DOHMED
Here's a link for California, though you'll have to do some reading to gleen any information from all the docs they have there:
http://www.medbd.ca.gov/international_medic.htm
Also, unrelated to this reaply, I notice in their list of dissapproved medical schools that UNIBE doesn't appear. Does that mean that they're provisionaly approved? I know people on here have a fascination with California approval, just wondering if something has changed. In any case, California also requires pre-professional college education. Not sure how much though, So if I were you I'd get on the horn and make some calls before I took the DR plunge only to find out later that I needed to have completed my pre0med in another independent program. Hope this helps. take care and God Bless.
Ozzie.

Clinicals from Unibe or any other domican school are done in the country itself in Spanish. Ive now for a fact you are only allowed to do 1 semester outside if you are lucky.

A high school diploma is all that is required in the DR!

All schools in the US require at least some College level work, in the DR all you have to be is a high school graduate to matriculate into med school. That's tuff isn't it!!!
