The info about the premed program posted on SGU's website didn't exactly answer few of the questions that I've had, so I'm hoping someone on this forum could answer them for me.

1. I've just earned my AS degree from a 2-year college with pretty decent GPA, and was wondering if it would be possible to try to gain admission into Y-3 premed program at SGU. I completed all the required courses(one year each of Gen-Chem, O-Chem, Bio, plus Phy, Math, Eng, etc etc) and earned 90+ credits, while my stay here in this college.

2. Do students need to come back to the states to take the MCAT before they are allowed to maticulate into SGU's MD program? SGU website only states that the students need to have a certain GPA and pass the PMSCE, however, I think saw Stephw mention something about pre-med students taking an MCAT, so I just wanted to clarify this issue...

Well, I guess this is it for now...
I would appreciate any input, Thank you in advance!

Dear VerusMedicus,

Why would you want to leave the States to complete your pre-medical education abroad??? That makes no sense, if you've completed 60 credits and obtained your AS Degree, why not stay at home and complete the other 30 credits or even go for your bachelor's degree? I wouldn't recommend completing your pre-meds elsewhere than in the states. For one, SGU Pre-medical program doesn't offer student loans for the time being, although they are working on it. You'll save yourself tons of money by staying at home and completing your pre-professional courses, and why apply to some medical colleges in the States??? Don't focus only on doing your medical education abroad! Let this be your last resort, Stay home and complete your schooling, apply to some medical colleges at home... and if all else fails then apply to med schools abroad.

Good Luck,

Best Regards,

Darlyn

hey

well the pre med course at SGU is quite decent contrary to what people think although it is probably more advantageous to do it in the states. But to answer your question yeah you will probably get in if all your credits are in order.
And no you don't have to do the MCAT. SGU does the pmsce which is thier verson of the mcat and that is all they do.
hope this helps.
