For the following conditions, match the pH,PaCO2,HCO3 levels given as A,B,C.

1.Patient with pulmonary embolism
2.patient with COPD who has visible signs of cyanosis
3.patient with barbiturate poisoning

--------PH----------------PCO2------------HCO3
----(7.35-7.45)-----(33-45mmHg)----(22-28mEq per L) Normal values

A. 7.22 69 27

B. 7.56 24 21

C. 7.33 68 34

Plz answer the question with explanation, thanks,Good luck

1---->B--->pulmonary embolism ----hyperventilation---decreased Pco2----respiratory alkalosis----since this is an acute condition no time for compensation so bicarbonate more or less normal

2---->C----COPD---obstructive lung disease---hypoventilation--increases Pco2---resp acidosis--chronic condition so kidneys compensate by increasing retention of bicarbonate so increase bicarbonate Ph brought almost to normal

3----->A---Barbiturate poisoning --causes resp depression by acting centrally ---hypoventilation ---increase Pco2---resp acidosis---no time for compensation to occur so bicarbonate constant.
