on one hand its been great not having my wife and kids here because i can focus 100% on school and not worry about the details of life, she won't even tell me whats going on at home with family and friends so i have focused 100% on school. i take a week off halfway each semester and visit so my kids remember what i look like but other than that its one or two phona calls a week and massive email to the kids.

first semester is when you'l get used to it then its easier from then on. sure its hard not seeing them missing t-ball, first days of school etc. but even if they were here i'd spend very little time with them anyway right? i see dan with his family and makes me miss mine but he also struggles balancing time between school and kids and i know i took the easy way way out by just not having them here and not having to choose.

i say the next two years you have to develop a narsassistic personality disorder and do what is in your best interest because in the long run its your family's best interest. would i do it over again not having them here? depends when in the seemster you ask me...at the end no way, in the begining and before tests definetely. these are the reasons we decided this way:

1) didn't want to pull the kids out of their montessori school that was a pain to get them in
2) house value is skyrocketing in chicago, if we waited to sell we could make an extra 100k
3) economy in the states isn't that great, how easy would it be for her to find work when we got back?
4) time, how much time would i spend with them
5) cost, drying up our savings, living in the caribbean in substandard conditions (cutting corners to live on loans) wasn't appealing but it can be done

see what works for you, its worked for me so far but i can't keep it going much longer so even though we weren't planniong on moving for clinicals we are doing it so i don't have to be away again....

I wonder if single husbands count. That is, husbands whose wives have had to stay back for whatever reason in the states.

It looks more and more like I will be joining that category.

And it sucks!

Rich seems to be excited as his wife is visiting next week. I feel for you all lonely people roaming around, which includes me too sadly. :D

Well rrod I really appreciate your input. Don't know if we can do it for 5 semesters... But we have to for the first one.
How does taking a wk off in the middle work out ???
Tickets must be a bundle $$$$

Taking a week off will be really difficult with the new system(I know you didn't ask for my opinion but what the hell... ).

You have a test every 3 weeks and now that they clumped all the 1-2 credit classes into one month each, you will miss ALOT of info in that class as well as Anatomy lab, etc. But if you can afford the slight dip in grades after the 3rd set of exams, by all means, go for it.

Hhhhmm, why would your wife want you to go AWAY????????

More importantly, why is Yeahbaby reluctant to answer questions relating to his/her medical education at AUC?

I suppose that providing humor to this forum is more important than substantiating a claim that you went to X med school and were offered Y important positions and are currently making Z money.

Aloha,

i think is safe to assume that the poster 'Yeahbaby" is either someone not in med school or a med student that has way too much free time on his/her hands (is that even possible?? ). i also think that jon TONGSON (see!! i can spell it correctly) has a point in pointing out the "holes" in this person's credibility in other topics posted. i hope no new students reading the auc forum listen to this person for advice.

later,

ps. its funny that his spelling mistakes follow a pattern in this post: http://www.valuemd.com/viewtopic.php?t=20260

kinda looks like he deleted a letter from words that had a repeat letter in their spelling or added letters at random... i am a bad speller and i cant do as bad of a job even if i tried.
