Hey I"m looking into medical schools in Punjab! So far I have been told that the University that the med schools fall under is called Baba Farid University of Health Sciences...and it hasn't started selling their application packages. So I just wanted to know around what time the university noramlly starts selling them...cause classes start i think in late August or early September! If anyone has any information regarding this..please do reply!

Thanks,
Harleen

well it depends

which college u r thinking of joining ?
and whether u want to go for a regular general seat or the payment/NRI/donation seat ?

cos the former is thro a pre-med test of the univ. and if u are interested in the latter than the college itself does the admissions and univ has no intervention in the matter.

I am thinking of the latter..because I fall under the NRI section..I am thinking of going to Dayanad medical college..it's in ludhiana!

i myself am a grad from DMC&H.

SO in case u r interested in going there u shud contact the college directly, order an application form+prospectus and apply as soon as u can cos there are only 10 NRI seats per batch and often they have more than 10 applicants.

well the fee is $ 75Ks (which u can give in instalments also) + 1000$ anually + living expenses. (approx)

and u can check out these sites

www.dmch.edu
www.dmchonline.com

though the sites are not that informative still u'll get an idea and a way to go.

hope this helps

in case u wanna know anything else, fell free to ask :) .

(mind u in case ur from canada be aware that ur way back wont be easy)

Even I am looking into Med Schools in Punjab. Im thinking about Amritsar even though there are many DMC grads in my fam. I guess Amritsar is the way to go as some cousins of mine told me that at DMC, you sometimes fail cuz of being an NRI. Plus, there are more med schools in Amritsar and thats where im originally from. Anyone got info. on Amritsar, PB med schools?

So your cousins told you that it will be much harder for an NRI to to DMC as opposed to Amritsar? If that's what he/she told you ..do you know what they based that on?

firstly there are only 2 medical colleges in amritsar, the one is govt med college so no way u r going to get a NRI seat there.

the one u r left with is guru ram dass and if somebody told u that its better than DMC than that person either doesnt know anything about either of two colleges or that person needs psych consultation. :)

well ya it is the case that many NRIs fail during there prof exams during their MBBS and some many a time but if they tell u that they were intentionally held back just cos they were NRIs than they r absolutly lying and hiding their own faults cos the truth is that most NRIs struggle a lot during their MBBS years. well there are lot of reasons behind it ranging from different methods and style of education to the sheer workload of studying in a med school but the most imp reason is the attitude cos most of them are accustomed to the laid back style of american education which doesnt helps there .

so if u r going there better fasten ur seat belts. :)

hope this helps.
