Sadly we are not bringing our pets with us to the island (we could not find an apartment that would accept them) but I thought for the other fellow "newbies" who are bringing there pets that this was an important question.
What do you do with your pets when there is a hurricane? Will AUC allow you to keep them at the school during the storm or do they have to stay at the house? Are there other places on the island where you can take them in case the school will not allow them?
Thanks.

I haven't yet had to deal with a hurricane (crossing my fingers that we'll be able to weather the 14 known tropical storms scheduled this season!), but I know that the apartment complex that I am currently in withstood the last major hurricane (the one that wiped out Mullet Bay Golf Course) and came through unscathed. With that, I feel fairly comfortable staying with my pets here.
I don't think there is a policy that states that in event of a hurricane, you can't bring your pets to school (it is, after all, built to withstand Category 5 hurricanes), but I would advise otherwise.
As far as animals, I quote Professor Gaffin:
"You buy dogs at the doggie store, cats at the kittie store, and monkeys at the monkey store".

A few of us have decided that we'll convert Note Service into a doggie shelter
As for the monkey, I'm not sharing my rations with him.

I have a question. I am bringing my dog with me. (was lucky enough to find a kind landlord), are there any agriculture requirements for brining her in? Here in Hawaii we have a very strict process requiring paperwork out the ying yang and a quarantine if the paperwork doesn't meet standards. It's also very expensive. Is there anything on SXM I need to be aware of?
Thanks,

Getting the dogs in is pretty easy, if there under 100lbs. Just get you 'flight health certificate' from the vet within the set days (10?) Also be sure you get your rabies shots paperwork- one within the last year and one in the last 30 day for good measure, just in cause the ******* at the airline counter doesn't know what "PRIOR to 30 days" is.... (long story.. do a search on dogs here and you'll find a lot of info.

Don't tempt me...
Doc Andy,
If you search for "pets", there has been a ton of information previously posted regarding everything from health certificates, vaccines, veternarians, etc.
