Hi,
1) I was just wondering if you would need an "International driver's license" in Caymans...? And I'm pretty sure that Internatioanl driver's license is only valid for 1 year. How do you guys deal with this?

2)Any public buses from the Residence Hall to the school? How often?

2)And is there a direct flight to Cayman's? If so, which airline?

3)How about owning a scooter, rather than a small car?
And how often does it rain? Like around 1 or 2 days a week like the East Coast of US or does it have a certain raining season?

4)Is the island an UK territory? Because I noticed that they drive in an opposite direction. Is the car steering wheel on the passenger side?

Thanks in advance~
Take care

You would need a local Cayman Driver's License to drive and operate any vehicle while on the island. Go to the local Grand Cayman DMV to get one.

2)Any public buses from the Residence Hall to the school? How often?

You can catch a bus on the street for $2CI one way.

2)And is there a direct flight to Cayman's? If so, which airline?

There are direct flights from Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, as well as a few more cities. These flights are via Cayman Airways. Check out their website for more info.

3)How about owning a scooter, rather than a small car?

The choice is yours. I'd recommend a car. Consider the rain season (June to December). Cars are also more practical than scooters (i.e. getting groceries, etc.)

4)Is the island an UK territory? Because I noticed that they drive in an opposite direction. Is the car steering wheel on the passenger side?

The Cayman Islands are considered the British West Indies. Therefore, it is a territory/protectorate of Great Britain. We drive on the left side here.

Good luck!

to buy a car you need a Cayman Drivers License, its really easy you just go to the DMV here and bring in your passport and US DL and they just give you a Cayman one (i think it last like 3-5yrs). the fee is around 75 US dollars, then you can drive. if you are just visiting you can get a temp license from a rental car agency for about 10 US dollars for 4 months i believe.

2)Any public buses from the Residence Hall to the school? How often?

buses run all the time (every few mins but they are not on a set schedule). they will take you anywhere u need to go on Seven Mile Beach, you just tell them where to stop. its like 2.50 US a ride, one way.

2)And is there a direct flight to Cayman's? If so, which airline?

i am not sure where u are coming from, but check out Delta and American Airlines. if you happen to live in Miami or Houston or Atlanta, i believe that you can take Cayman Airways directly here, but i am not 100%. also i am not sure if you are from UK, i think there are directs as well.

3)How about owning a scooter, rather than a small car?

scooter seems ok, but if it rains...then you will be in trouble. you can always get a ride with ppl when it rains though, so i guess thats its ok. Cayman has a definite rainy season, which apparently is now, but since late April i think its only rained maybe 10x. when it does rain its heavy for a small amount of time then back to total beauty...nothing like the US or monsoons. the cost of getting a good scooter is about the same as gettin a decent small car though, so i wouldnt see why you would want one...plus if you spend a lil more and get a honda (or a skyline :D ) you will be able to break even when you sell it and get off the island.

4)Is the island an UK territory? Because I noticed that they drive in an opposite direction. Is the car steering wheel on the passenger side?

Cayman is a UK territory, the queen is on all the money and we do drive on the other side...the cars are for the most part brought in from japan (i think something like 2/3 are) because in japan you cant have a car older then 5yrs old (something like that). its pretty awesome because you can get a great car that has only like 20-30thou miles on it and is like a 98 and in perfect condition for a great low price (i see several 1997ish 4 door civics for like 3500CI). it takes a few days to get used to driving on the opp side, but its nothing after that.

well i hope that this helped you out, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions

good luck!!!
