Hi, looking into foreign medical schools. I'm from the US, speak fairly well Chinese (Cantonese only), but I can't read Chinese. Does anyone know if there are medical schools in China that don't require the knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese written language?
Otherwise, what about some schools in Hong Kong?
Or does anyone know of any other schools which are WHO approved in Asian Countries (philippines, japan, etc) that are English taught and I can return to the States to practice medicine in New York, NJ, or CT??

i am a US raised girl who went to the philippines for medical school. all the courses are taught in english in all the med schools there. i had a few classmates who were from taiwan and the mainland china, and of course the filipino-chinese community is very big and strong in the philippines. so you shouldn't have a problem. english and tagalog(filipino) are the official language, so you will be ok.
most of the established med schools are WHO-approved. there are a few newer med schools (within the last 5 years) that might not be yet. alot of foreign (non-philippine citizens) are at UERM, UST, Fatima, DeLasSalle, FEU,etc. contact the Philippine embassy for the complete list. you will also need to take their MCAT version called NMAT. check out PinoyIMG.com. i think there is some info there too.
good luck

Yup, medicine is thought in english at Hong Kong National University~ its not that easy to get into the school, you'd need very good results to enter as I heard that the fees are largely subsidized by the goverment.
Best wishes~!
