You should probably try to bring your MCATs up above 20 to be considered competitive.

if you show proof of registration in the missing prereq, orgo 2, meio will consider your app with the stipulation that an acceptance would be preconditioned on completion of that remaining prereq by the time of matriculation.

that being the case, if i were you, i would find a school nearby teaching both semesters of orgo in one summer (they're all over the place) and register for second semester. based on my research on this last summer, i would say it would be starting right before or right after the 4th of july. you should then either go ahead and take it and get it done, or at least be enrolled for the purpose of an application consideration by meio and then drop out and explain why and hopefully have an acceptance which stipulates only that it must be done before starting at auc.

all this is assuming that you have a sufficiently flexible schedule to be able to drop everything for five weeks and take orgo, which granted is a big assumption and i have a feeling i am inviting several untoward remarks just by suggesting such a thing

You may want to raise your MCAT. Its not so hard to get in ( don't think 18 will do it) but passing and staying on course is a different story. Its a fairly good predictor of your future board scores as well. Improving your foundation before starting here will increase your likelihood of success. Remember if you fail out not much can help with the big debt.

Have you taken a kaplan MCAT course and given it your all? This may be something to consider.

Best wishes!

I took Kaplan and the instructors were so-so. Save your money. 99% of the learning is up to you and that's all going to happen outside of the classes. In other words, don't expect to learn via osmosis by sitting in the classes. The only good part about the course are all the test that are available imo.

The "Thick" Kaplan review book you can buy at any good bookstore is the way to go. They basically just took all the seperate books from the course and combined them. It's the exact same material. Just spend about 3 months (20 hrs/week) learning this one book cover to cover and you will have AT LEAST 8's on your two science sections. I got a 10PS and a 9BS after studing this book. I spent about 20 hrs/week studying for 3-4 months.
Everyone is differnet though. You may need more or less time. It's doable though. How bad to you want it? :D

If you cann't find the book I can dig up the ISBN number for you.

I would really suggest you spend the rest of the summer studying for the MCAT. Register for it if you already haven't, the deadline is approaching soon.

While taking Orgo II this summer is a good idea, getting your MCAT scores up is vital. Doing well on the August MCAT this summer will ensure that you can focus all of your strength on Orgo II when it is offered in the Spring, rather than juggle both Orgo and MCAT at the same time. Not to mention you can apply earlier (late Fall) and re-take it if you don't do as well as you'd like.

Kaplan's instructors aren't the greatest, but if you are having trouble understanding some concepts, I have found them to be very approachable for clarification. Plus, you will be able to use their video tapes and extra test materials to get more experience.

Even if you decide to take Orgo now, and MCAT in April, I would still start studying for it now...
