I am considering going to the Caribbean to study Medicine. I started my college career with Biology and did poorly and switched majors to Political Science and my grades shot up, I finally graduated and after that I retook my pre-med courses and made A's and B's, but it only brought my pre-med GPA to a 2.3, but my overall when I graduated was a 2.84 I also continued an MPH and made a 3.7 GPA. I have over 2000 hours of community service at the hospital and was very active in organisations on campus and student leader in many clubs. Would I be a good candidate?? Should I even apply??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

to be honest your science gpa is a bit low. if you have a decent MCAT you might stand a chance. you seem pretty well-rounded but i am not an admissions official just an august 2004 first termer so the best thing to do would be to apply and see what happens.

I'm sure alot of people here at SGU have similiar stories. I'd say apply. I mean you have nothing to lose, except some money. But I'd also like to see what your MCAT scores are. The fact that you did very well with your MPH and in your pre-med classes shows your early grades were just a fluke and possibly a maturity issue. Let us know how it goes.
