I am considering going to the Caribbean to study Medicine. I started my college career with Biology and did poorly and switched majors to Political Science and my grades shot up, I finally graduated and after that I retook my pre-med courses and made A's and B's, but it only brought my pre-med GPA to a 2.3, but my overall when I graduated was a 2.84 I also continued an MPH and made a 3.7 GPA. I have over 2000 hours of community service at the hospital and was very active in organisations on campus and student leader in many clubs. Would I be a good candidate?? Should I even apply??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sure :) Do well on the MCAT(20 or above) and you'll be a competitive candidate.

Do you really think 20 or above will get you in to AUC or Ross? I am just asking becaus I am studying hard for MCAT now. Not quite as easy as I thought. But hey with a 3.2 GPA I could pull a 20 going in now. Maybe I will retire from the books and have every weekend free.

Actually I'm being sarcastic, 20 just seems LOW, but I guess that is just me.

20 is very low for US med schools but we're not exactly talking about IVY league here. There's been people who got in with a 15 but getting in isn't the hard part....

Wouldn't you rather be a Macrophage?

I think I will put Organic down for a bit and have a beer. I am studying alcohols now anyway.

I hope Andrea doesn't read this!

I hate organic. Is their a trick for Verbal because that is tricky too. Who would have thought.

Nah, I'll stick with Microphage. It's an old term that nobody really uses anymore... except our histology teacher. It's a neutrophil if you're curious.

Verbal..... read as fast as you can or you might run out of time. The questions aren't hard but if you're a slow reader, you might be in trouble. Organic just plain sucks. Luckily, everbody didn't do all that well in it when I took so I did fine in the biological sciences section.

Get back to studying, you still might be able to pull out a 40 or something and get into a US/Canadian med school.
