started in 1976 when there was no new hospital no university in barrio kennedy nothing....
it was dreadful no luz no water at times teachers never showed up
nothing
but we persevered
In 1976 there were hundreds of gringos cramped in the back of Dr George hOspital
with rats running around lights flickering on and off and intense heat
while we listened to some idiot surgeon Jimenez teach all of us USA college grads statistics.
there are hundreds of stories. I graduated in 1980
at that time Hazim saw his school falling apart all the gringos leaving for other carib schools so he gave us our diplomas soon after the 10th semester.

oddly enough i love going to the DR have done so every year
for the past 24 years. my wife loves it and plan someday if not in Habana
to live in Santo Domingo some part of the year

but
you are all very spoiled there now
very very very spoiled

we suffered tremendously
all the roads were just filled with holes
i could go and on and on

the reason there is no alumni in my opinion is that 99.99 percent of the grads who left the UCE, left very angry disgusted frustrated and with lots of rage
against the university the backwards people the lack of anything similar
to american medicine or american way of life which they expected.
I on the other hand am thankful for all i went thru there cos it taught me many things, but my buddies could not wait to leave and hate it to this day.

As a psychiatrist 24 years everyone i have met who studied there early in the seventies will not go back
some do but go golfing in casa de campo

I am a professional phtographer so i shoot the bateys around SPM
as well as know many people down there
Ciprian Ramirez the psychiatrist teacher in the UCE and I are friends a long time

a student is not a doctor
