Hi Everyone!

I am pounding my head against the wall :-tongue trying to figure out the best medical insurance for our family.

Can anyone please give their opinions regarding the options available and if you are using them, how's it working?

So far, it seems InternationalStudentInsurance seems the best candidate, what do you think? :?

I really appreciate it!! :D

i think you may be able to save some money with IMG insurance (IMG doesn't stand what we all think it stands for). do a yahoo search and you should find their website. I think it is a better value than ISI

I think Flash wrote a post about the School is going to offer some insurance to the AUC students and families and that should be revealed soon (before theAugust Semester starts). If it's not Flash I apologize. Just do a search on this website for "insurance."

International Student Insurance actually only sells IMG, International Medical Group, Insurance. So their policies, benefits, and premiums are identical.

Good luck insurance hunting.

IMG insurance can be purchased in many places, IMG uses brokers, so the premimums for the same policies vary. What I have found during much searching is that there are a few types of policies that seem to benefit student's family.

Global Insurance: (long term)is good for worldwide; they have 2 different programs.

Patriot Insurance: this is a short term one; less than a yr. There are provisions for coverage inside the US.

ExPatriot: long term (up to 2 yrs):Again there are provisions for coverage inside the US.

I will be very interested in what type of insurance the school decides to offer. Once it is offered....Rumer Mill running amuck!

Thanks for all the posts regarding this issue. :D

Hi Gang,
Just wanted to share my opinion of IMG thusfar. I've been insured by them since July of 2003. Their rep told me verbally over the phone that their Global Insurance plan would cover pre-existing conditons from the time I was insured.
After recently submitting a claim for about $500, the rep told me that it was denied because I hadn't been insured for TWO CONTINUOUS YEARS for them to cover my pre-existing condition.
I will be cancelling my policy and switching to NAGICO for health insurance (although it kills me to do so).
Another caveat is that it has been my experience that most of the practiotioners that I have been to will ONLY accept NAGICO...they pretty well had a good laugh when I presented my IMG card.

Aloha,

also, keep in mind that according to the last dean's hour there will be a health insurance policy in place for students in basic sciences that will carry over into clinicals and will cover students all year no matter where you are. i am not sure about family rates or if there are family plans but we should know details soon.
