So, this is obviously a ways off from today since I'll be starting at SGU in August, but I've also been doing research here at Baylor College of Medicine in Cardiology, and hope to continue to do Medicine, then Cardiology, and a fellowship as my chosen career path upon completion of medical school.
I've been learning a bit about how IMG's are finding it difficult to get licensure in TX and was wondering if some people could shed some light on the issue. I've already learned not to do any electives in TX if I want to practice in TX which is quite confusing.
Some help and understanding would be appreciated. Thanks!

Some help and understanding would be appreciated. Thanks! There's no good reason other than the ethics of that state. They discourage IMGs.SGU grads can get licensed in texas but what id suggest is that once you hit clinicals you make sure you know *every* rule pertaining to the state so you dont inadvertently fall afoul with the odd state rules. LIke you MUST do a neuro rotation. Not only that it must be ACGME licensed as a *neuro* program and not under the guise of internal medicine, which some are.
The issue about electives isnt that you shouldnt do electives in texas- its that under no cirucmstances can you do outside electives. Since sgu has none in texas this does translate after the fact to no electives there. But you cant do electives at ANY nonsgu place, not harvard, not yale, not hopkins, no place.

They also require Family Practice rotation along with Neuro.
Why they are making it harder I dont know because there is a shrtage of pricary care physicians in Texas and most IMGs go into primary care. I am from Texas lived there all my life and love it there but man I dont get them sometimes (ok I admit alot more than sometimes  )!
