I just got back from my trip in grenada, and since its so hot, I realized that Im gonna have to drink alot of water. Buying all of this will get really expensive, so I was wondering if its safe to drink the water there? I can get a britta filter if it helps??

I drank tap water from day one and never got sick. SOme use filters (like the Brita) and some also ordered the water coolers which actually between 2-3 people isnt all that expensive.

Yes, it's safe. I used a Brita, but I doubt it makes much of a difference.

However, I would advise you to pay attention to your fellow students. If they seem to be getting sick after a heavy rainfall, you might want to consider boiling the water. We had a mini-epidemic my first term there, right around the anatomy mock mid-term in fact.

I drink tap water and have never had a problem. I guess those 14 yrs I spent in Cuba drinking water with giardia and ameba finally paid off...

honestly... the only sure thing I knew about getting AGE was that when I moved off campus and bought food from the grocery store...and prepared my own food.... my stomach flus went down to about a tenth. Other than that...I regularly drank the water in my houses.... gym and other..no prob. So I think it's a food prep thing.

Can I buy one of those water filter things to attach to the sink? Will it fit in the sinks of the super dorms?

Quality of water is measured along two lines: microbiological and aesthetic. Using a 0.22um filter or boiling it or adding 8 drops of bleach to a gallon of tap water generally takes care of the first while brita filters take care of the latter. I plan on bringing with me a ton of 0.22um filters for the little critters and britta pitcher style filter for Pb and muddy rainwater.

Doesn't the school use desalination plants? That probably helps a lot in the safety of the water.

My goodness... doesn't anybody ever read? "I WAS GOING TO DRINK THE WATER"

Besides, be nice to the people who are used to buying bottled water, aka the city slickers. When you come from a city or have been to a city where water has been a problem, and considering water is so important to us, some people are just more paranoid. Peace folks.
