How easy is it to find a scooter in SXM? How much do they go for used? I am thinking about not buying a car and just motoring around on a scooter instead. Can you get around with one of these?

Whats your head worth?

Think you can find a helmet worth that much?

Crazy drivers, terrible roads, frequent rain.

When my bro was a resident he said they called them "donorcycles" .

And if you're thinking about those razor scooters, I'm going to beat you over the head myself.

To answer your question there are a lot of scooters on the island. Several dealerships sell them. Not safe but certainly available.

Have you seen how people on SXM drive? Think twice about a scooter. G

There are quite a few people riding around in scooters on the island, there is a motorcycle for sale at the school ($1200) cruiser looking thing but not quite. I am myself considering a honda CBR, or a Suzuki GSX-R (although not as a primary means of transportation). As mentioned earlier IMHO it just isn;t practical to have one of those as a primary transportation. Where would you put a weeks supply of groceries for instance.

I'd like to restress the bad roads. If a truck accidently spills a gravel all over a sharp turn. That gravel will still be there for two or three days. If 10 people on scooters dies on that that gravel, it will STILL be there for two or three days...

Plus, there just too easy to steal..

worst of all, you'd be a guy on a scooter...

I'm not a scooter fan.....

But I'd look at getting a Honda XR250 or similar.... nobby tires, big shocks 8) 8) etc.
Then who cares how bad the roads are  .

If you're not a "rider" you'll always see bikes/riders as stupid "donor's". Having ridden and raced for many years, I can say that every bad accident I've seen/come across was due to stupidity on the riders part.
aka thinning the heard.

You have to treat every car driver like an idiot an assume that they will obey none of the traffic laws.
When you come to that point you're half way to being relatively safe.

Hey Torben,

Now I'm really sorry I left my brand new Honda XR400 back in California!
That would be an awesome bike on the island. Fast, sturdy, nimble, it would make the local roads feel like a brand new freeway.

'Nough fantasies, back to my benchmarks...

i too having raced cars for a while was bitten with the donorcycle bug and bought myself a cbr, on my third week driving home after a ft lauderdale saturady night special, meet at fudruckers on a1a to show off and race, i saw a bike on one side of the road and a guys arm on another, next day i took it back and got my mustang back....it was nice to have my idiot insurance (roll cage) around me again....bikes are awsome but i would never ride one again, too many unstable drivers both on cars and other idiot bikers to worry about...

1AM and comeing from a party.... You might not have drunk too much.
But the guy missing an arm probably did.

Yeah, just sold my YZ250 and my wifes XR400.

Oh well. Still have my gear though 8)

Bicycles are just as bad with less padding.
It helps to have gone down on a motorcross bike alot... and know what to expect.
Kind of like skiing your first time vs. 10 years of skiiing.

You have to learn how to fall !!!

My brother rode bikes for close to 10 years before he got married, and he has broken almost every bone in his body. I rode for a while when I was younger, but its been atleast 8-9 years since I last rode a bike. However, I am determined to buy one within this year, just can;t decide if I want a CBR, Ninja, Buell, or a Ducati (all used of course), just looking for something low on maintenance!

Oh S^#t, exceeded my study break by 2 minutes, m..u..s..t..keep studying anatomy! :?
