Hi everybody!! I applied to AUC. Hoping for the best after several years of trying to get into the med school here in Shrevport, LA. Hi Rocky, It's Jeff D. I made it. :)

Anyway, I wish I had looked into AUC 3 years ago. After all the thread reading, it sounds great!! My brother is a med/peds doc that went to LSU New Orleans and he says it's really not going to matter were I go to school as long as you get licensure. My only REAL concern is I have a 3 month old daugther. My wife is an RN and naturally I really want them to come with me if I get in. Are there any jobs for RN's on the island? I wouldn't even know how to find out. Of course, everything is hypothetical right now. I am just thinking "what if's". I am still up in the air about if the island is a place for an infant this small. Worst case; I go down there for a year and test the waters before they come. My wife is very supportive and is with me on this idea 100%. BTW, I have a tad bit of "first time daddy syndrome". Any family people with young ones down there? I really would like to hear from you.

Like the name man...I think there are lots of wives and kids on the islands with spouses. As far as jobs, maybe somebody like teratos or trmedic will know...

There are quite a few people down here with spouses and kids. I think the spouses club is a great support system-especially for people with children ( We only have a furry "child" so I cant comment too much on it but maybe someone with kids can elaborate). As for jobs.....my fiancee is a Respiratory Therapist and we contacted the hospital on the Dutch side and they were not looking for any RT's at the time. There are other spouses on the island that are nurses and I dont know of any that work. Hope that helps a bit.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies and to everyone that sent me pm's offering advice/help. I am assumming that MEIO informs applicants on acceptance and not the school?? I would like to follow up on my completed app in 7-10 days to see if my transcripts are there, etc. Anyone know the "best" phone number that can connect me to a person that can check on this for me. I will try email first but I want to have a phone number in the wings just incase. Thanks again.

Jeff D.

Well, I got a call this morning from Norma at MEIO. She gave me her ext. and said to call with any question about the island, etc. She was very friendly and just called to confirm my application. She said she would call me when my app goes to review also. This type of service is just abnormal from what I am use too. I hope it's a sign of good things to come. :D

hi there....good luck with your app! i was just wondering, how many recommendation letters did you have sent on your behalf? and from who? as in professors, or just physicians?

They need at least one prof. LOR.
send 3 as the min and more if you can get them. The more you send, the less chances they will lose them(debatable)
