Hello all, Please I need some advice from AUC students: I am currently at Ross and I regret my decision of coming to this island. My mood is affecting my study habits and consequently my grades, as of now I am failing some classes. So: A) Should I quit before the semester ends from Ross and apply to AUC (WITHOUT MENTIONING I EVER ATTENDED ROSS, WILL AUC FIND OUT I ATTENDED ROSS?) B) Should I try to transfer even if I fail a class or more at Ross? (Will AUC accept the credits?) Some points about AUC: A)How are the exams there? Is it all subjects in one exam? B) If you fail a class at AUC, do you have to repeat the whole semester? or just the class you failed (If you only have to repeat the class you failed, will that delay your graduation?) I appreciate any comments Thanks

A) Should I quit before the semester ends from Ross and apply to AUC (WITHOUT MENTIONING I EVER ATTENDED ROSS, WILL AUC FIND OUT I ATTENDED ROSS?)

If you are paying cash for your education, then it is up to you whether or not you feel right about hiding your time at Ross on the application - though ethically, it would be the right thing to inform AUC of your history.

If you are taking out financial aid, I am pretty sure you will run into issues with SAP eligibility etc... therefore, AUC will probably find out about Ross.

B) Should I try to transfer even if I fail a class or more at Ross? (Will AUC accept the credits?)

AUC will make you start over as a first semester student if you come here.

A)How are the exams there?

It all depends on how good of a student you are. Some find the exams extremely difficult, others do not seem to have trouble with them at all.

Is it all subjects in one exam?

Currently, you take all your exams (usually three) separately on the same day. There is usually a break of 30-45 mins between each exam.

B) If you fail a class at AUC, do you have to repeat the whole semester? or just the class you failed

You have to repeat the class you failed.

(If you only have to repeat the class you failed, will that delay your graduation?)

Failing one class will put you behind one semester in basic sciences. Instead of finishing in five semesters, you will be forced to finish in six.

Generally, failing one class does not put you behind for graduation - although it all depends on when you started etc.

If mood severely affects your ability to study, I would recommend seeing a psychiatrist and obtaining help before continuing your medical education. There is a lot of stress involved no matter where you go, so if you're attributing solely mood you will need that looked at ASAP.

Sloal pretty much hit all the points on the head.

I just wanted to add that passing at AUC is 69.5%. There is no "curve" MPS that Ross has. So its less cutthroat I would think.

-good luck

What aspects of Dominica don't you like? St. Maarten does have more to do here.... but other than that, most of the same issues exist here, so it is important to find out exactly what you don't like.

Hunger, loneliness, boredom, and isolation.

i have known many fellow students that have dropped Ross after their first semester and made it just fine at AUC. If the island is truly affecting u get off of that rock and apply to AUC. Remember AUC is a business therefore they would not mind making even more money. Apply for spring right now they will accept u but hurry. If u want a really easy semester to get into apply for the summer semester.

I would say to apply for the May semester, not the summer, bc its the easier to get into and class size is much smaller. AUC has its good and bad, but it seems that the living condition and class sizes are much better here at AUC than at Ross.

I think May semester = Summer semester?

Aug/Sept = Fall

Jan = Spring

i agree...if you're taking out loans...DO NOT lie about your time at Ross...one student from my class got dismissed because of the very same reason.

- Ok. You will be forced to finish in an extra semester, which means you will be taking only one class for that semester. Is that correct?

-On average, how many questions per exam and how much time.... how much time per questions, 80 sec, 90 sec? Are all exams Multiple choice?

Most exams give you 1:12 (72 seconds) per question - the same time [I am told] given for the USMLE.

If you fail one course - you will have a full courseload until your last semester, where you will have only one course.

If you fail one class, you retake that one class and then the two courses from the next semester that come after the ones you passed.

You can drop courses all you want, but if you don't make a certain number of credit hours by the end of fourth semester, you will get dismissed from the university.

It you fail one class twice, you get dismissed from the university.

If you fail to complete basic sciences in 7 semesters, you get dismissed from the university.

But if that happens, do you still qualify for finacial aid in your last semester? Don't you need to take at least a certain number of credits to qualify for financial aid?

How many questions per subject on each exam?

Depends. Ranges from 28ish on Physio to 50ish on Pharm. Finals may have exams with 60-80 questions. Shelf exams are 125.

Physio I, II, and Neuroscience is based on the number of days of lecture (X2 per day). So if you had 20 day of lecture, you would take a 40 question examination. The final is based on 1 question per day of lecture so its about 60 or so questions.

Path I and II is 40 questions per block and 50 questions for the final (though currently the first 2 blocks are weighted less than blocks 3 and 4

I am in a similar situation....i turned down AUC to go to Ross and was thinking about re-applying for the may semester in AUC, as i found it a bit difficult to adjust to the island here. So i guess its pretty clear to be honest about Ross then...however, will it impact my chances of getting in due to the fact that i turned down AUC previously? Thanks to anyone that can help.

I would assume so, though I do not know the specific answer to your question.

How many questions per subject on each exam?

It depends on the subject. For Physio or Neuro, we usually have between 30-40 questions. Some classes give you 50 questions. Other classes give you 10 questions per exam.

Obviously, there are a lot more questions on a final exam than there are on regular block exams.

I'm also a Ross first semester student looking to leave. I don't anticipate failing any of my classes, but I'm so unhappy with the quality of the education and exam/grading policies here that I've got to get out. Plus, Dominica is utterly miserable.

How detailed are the exams at AUC? I hate how Ross exams test the most obscure, minute details from a ton of material. For example, Histo exams had 750-1000 powerpoint slides that were fair game every exam. Do you think the AUC exams are fair?

Also, does the administration want AUC students to pass so they can sit for the USMLE or is their an active effort to weed out students?

I have heard that Ross instruction is horrible. My doctor told me he knew some people that went to Ross and said that they are horrible at teaching. Hopefully its better at AUC.
