Hi,

I just saw a graph from the RESULTS AND DATA 2009 MAIN RESIDENCY MATCH pdf. It shows that there were about 37,000 applicants and about 23,000 positions. What do the rest of the 14,000 people do? Will they eventually get residency?

Okay, so go to med school and then go to nursing school become an RN and then go get a masters to become a np. AHAHAHA what a joke!

Some of those applicants are from foreign lands and will not come to the States, after all. Others are US citizens, or already live there, and they will decide to reapply next year. Others will end up as nurses or in some other allied health field (and frankly, after completing medical school I think I would rather insert knitting needles in my eyes than do that, but maybe that's just me). Others will work in non-clinical areas like research or medical administration for health insurance companies, etc. Still others will end up bidding medicine adieu and doing something else entirely.

There are a lot of options, I guess.

None of them are particularly appealing to me.
