I had a question for people who have transferred into the basic sciences.

Did you have to go through the whole process of getting letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc? Or were you able to just send the documents from your previous school over to Statia?

Also, if you don't mind, are you happy with your decision to transfer?

One last question, is anyone doing an "MBA" to help fund their way through med school? If so, what program and how much do you get per term?

Thanks in advance.

They are not big on LOR's. But u will need to send them ur transcripts. All in all, they are very helpful with the process. Of course the most important thing is ur transcript from ur current school
Am I happy with decision, sort of. I left my past school not because I failed or anything but because I got in a very big arguement with the admin and they wanted to single me out and make a point of "if u do that, this is whats gonna happen to u" so I was very unhappy and it cost me money, time and effort. But having said that, Statia offers far far far better clinical sites and help than any other school that I know of (I know about Ross, Saba and Xavier), the clinical dep are always there to help, so hope it helps.
I have no idea about the loan prog, something u should look into it urself.

If you don't mind- which school did you transfer from? How do the academics compare?

Don't bother with this forum, if you want to talk to Yashar about how good the school is, just call him at the NY office (he works there).

why does futurestudent always assume someone works for the school when they make a positive comment about SESOM? lol.

Well this time he nailed it, I do work for the school.
The prospect of someone calling the NY office, and asking for me is something beyond funny. I would absolutely love it if someone did though, muhahaha

Futurestudent - Quite honestly, I am a prospective student and i appreciate your responses but I find very few that are constructive criticisms...actually close to none....You suggested me to "use my brain" in one of the threads earlier.
I highly suggest that you calm your vengeance against this school as people can make out a difference between an honest opinion vs a troll.
If you are truly a Medical student at any institution, seriously go study and only post if you have something which maybe worthy of saying. If you have a criticism, please back that up with proof rather than childish comments such as "use your brain".

Thanks for the responses. I'm in the process of getting my application in order. I would be coming from saba as well. Hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Thanks again

Does it occur to you "transfer" students that you are not really transfer students? You have been unsuccessful at a high level (Caribbean) medical school. What makes you think that 'success' at a low-level (Caribbean) medical school means you will be successful medical doctor? If you could not make it in to a US school...and you were unsuccessful in a noteworthy Caribbean medical school...guess what?
Please, I admonish you, rethink before you find yourself bancrupt, or worse.
To all you cheerleaders who will say "blah, blah, blah"...get a real job- not one dependant on students dismissed from other schools paying tuition to cover your paycheck. :(

you automatically assume that the OP is transferring because of grades, when he/she makes it sound like they are in need of financial help.

but continue, im certain your negativity will help you throughout life...

You picked the wrong person.
To answer your q, Step 1 is an exam that everyone takes, its an standardized exam and the result never lies. What makes me confident that I'll be a good candidate is that I Killed my exam and I was a transfer.
I transferred outta Saba, yet I did just as well as American students on my step 1, 90% + and above National avg ...
I COMPLETELY disagree with ur comment, I think most people are of same intelligence, it's just the situation that people are in are very different. I moved to Canada at the age of 17 (i'm 26) and did not speak a word of English. So you really think that I would be able to compete to get into a good university and even more, did you really expect me to get A's on my uni courses?
My Final thought is this (MUST READ FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS):
When I transferred outta Saba I really thought it was going to be an uphill battle. However, I studied very hard for Step 1 and did quite well. Now I'm studying for step 2 and if all goes well im looking for an at least 245+ on that and to be very honest for what I wanna do (Internal med) that means that I will be a VERY COMPETITIVE candidate, no matter if im up against an american grad or carrib grad. The only time that Im gonna be discriminated against is when a program straight up does not accept carrib students. Currently I'm in Chicago and am on a soccer team with Northwestern med students. 1. they are all humble, 2. they are JUST LIKE ME. They have almost same step grades as me, some higher some lower and starting this summer I'll even rotate with them for electives. My point is if there is one thing that I admire about humanity is that it's never over. There's been derm residents from carrib schools, there is been rad residents from carrib schools . Its never ever over. I personally called some programs and they told me as long as I have good step 2 score, they dont even care about me transferring from Saba.

Well, for the sake of diversity, I totally agree with futurestudent. There are WAY too many dreamers who come to Caribbean medical schools to fritter their fortunes away when they have NO business attempting medical school. I don't know if our friend fits that, but don't dis futurestudent for speaking the truth.

K, I don't think the OP in this thread had 12 withdrawals .. The OP in this thread was wondering about transfering from another school. I agree that there are some people who have no bussiness being in Med School, but that doesnt only apply to Carib schools. I also admit that the admision standards as EVERY ONE knows is much lower than american schools, so yes the chances of less qualified people coming to Carib med schools is very high, However, that is EXACTLY why carib schools are there for. They are there to give that last chance that us humans always beg for when thigns go wrong. And having said that, I think that NO ONE can tell someone else that they are qualified or not to come to a school. By all means, I would love to see VERY VERY high admission standards at Statia, but as things stand, the doors are open to alot of people and it's up to them. I said it before, the sitatution that people are in is very different. I had to withdraw twice when I was on Saba and although I had a VERY legitimate reason, school found me unfit, funny how I scored higher than the avg class of American school students on step. My point, school is there to give people a chance, let them take it, and if they fail, meh they fail, its not like they are taking your money and burning it.
And about FS, every negativity has some truth behind it, cause we are not perfect, but for one to take his EXTEREME stupid -childish, Uneducated, Ridiculous, etc etc comments, with the goal of just making school look bad- serious, is just plain wrong. FS is a lame individual, and I personally love it when he comments cause it gives me a change to 1. Highligh his stupidity and hammer him down. 2. highligh how our school is SO not what he says it is ..
School is a good school. its got amazing Path, Psych, Micro, Anatomy, ... profs, its got an admin that returns ur call or email within 12 hours, Its got Clinicals sites in most cities with no waiting list and honestly *** do I want more? Hey I'm in a Carib school and for me that is all that I need. and why do I bother posting here? cause I genuienly believe that are individuals out there, in similar positions like myself, and who need to be told that hey there is still light, do your job and life will be all good. I come from a broken family, with many shattered dreams, yet Thanks to this school I can look ahead into 5 years, and say hey at least I ll never starve again.
