How bad are the mosquitos over on the island? Are the mosquitos a nuisance isolated to the inland or are they around the campus en masse? What months are they the most problematic? I'm trying to figure out how much mosquito repellent to bring.

Well they seem to be most probematic in the rainy season (now until Dec/Jan) Just before I left, I had at least 10 mosquito bites at any one time, so either they are quite prevelant, or they just like me.

If you are a girl, then they'll most probably bite you more than a guy. If you are a menstruating female (seriously); watch the hell out, because you'll be their prime target. These suckers are not much of a problem other than being a nuisance.

Also, you can't get Dengue fever from the mosquitos that bite at night (i think or I might be confused with malaria, I think I'm right).....most of the mosquitos bite at night.

This season is especially bad because we've been getting lots and lots of rain.

hope that helps

In May they werent too bad, i slept with the windows open for 2 nights and got bit only once. Nothing like the problem we are having here in southeastern Mass.

They definitely are attracted to some people more than others. My brother was just down here and he was complaining about all the mosquitos biting him while we were eating dinner at Ruldoph's. I couldn't feel any. At the Beach House they put a mosquito coil under out table. Friends of mine got eaten up at the Bel Air plantation resturaunt.

There was a group of 1st termers this year who liked to study on the bourne patio and they bought mosquito coils and bug spray and that did a pretty good job. I'd bring down that stuff down with you if you plan on being outside much, but i don't think aerosol is allowed on planes.

Do the room windows and/or doors on campus come with screens?

I was actually thinking of bringing some kind of window screen (the kind that slides to fit yer window).

What do students do?

Yes, the rooms on campus come with screens....

My supposition only - I am not trying to start another rumor:
[Though in an effort to enforce a memo to keep all widows closed at all times, they may be taking them out... (SD2 was wasting too much A/C, i guess)]
