I am currently a 4th semester on SXM and I am very interested in doing all of my core clinical rotations in Waterford. I have searched for pertinent info on the forums and specific details are sparse. For any of those students who are currently or have previously rotated through Waterford...I am looking for contacts to discuss the details of this site. If you could PM me I have a number of questions I would like to ask of those in the know...

Thanks...

Remember u must also bring along 3 others students if u want to go to ireland. take it from an upper semester classmate if u want to take it easy in some cores take for example if u have no interest in surgery then go to england. Do not do all of your cores there many program directors do not look favorably on the foreign clinical experience especially in the field u are applying for and also since u are already an FMG.

Thanks for the reply...

But it doesn't sound as though you got much out of your rotation in the US (Providence). Interesting read, that thread. Hope those guys aren't too internet savvy ;) Regardless, I am perhaps in a bit of a different situation than some. I am a non-traditional (read older) student and was fortunate enough to work at WUSTL SOM for the last 6 years with some amazing docs and fellows...hopefully I could squeeze a few calls out of them :D.

I am still considering my options, but I am self motivated, love to work and I feel as though I would be able to do much more over in the UK than in the US due to the litigative atmosphere here. Perhaps I am wrong...but that is what I understand from my reading.

I have planned from the beginning to go into IM, have done well here and don't see that changing. I have read both pro and con for UK. I was definately planning on doing electives in the states.

Time to get back to studying for those blocks...:faint:

I just wrote the Ireland site about going there with 2 other people (for a total of 3) and this was the response I got:

Many thanks for your email. Unfortunately WRH is not in a position to take further AUC students at present. More than 300 students did their core clerkships here and we all enjoyed the trans-Atlantic interaction but the programme for AUC is currently on hold. I wish you luck in your further studies.

I remember hearing in my second semester that AUC was giving a stipend to students to help pay for housing/living expenses in Ireland. I wonder if things just got too expensive?

They're currently giving a stipend of $900 for both peds and OB in the UK ($1800, if you do both). That's the only stipend I know of at the moment.
