Hello, my name is Ali and I am planning to join AGU in January '10, I'm finishing up my pre-med units with AGU then starting the Basic Sciences program. If anyone on this forum could tell me what to expect in Belize; I am from Sacramento, California and have never been to central America and I have an idea what to expect but is there anything in particular I should be aware of?
Also, if there are any basic science students whom have completed their pre-med with AGU, please let me know if you have your books I would be glad to purchase them off you for a cheaper price in Belize rather than bringing them with me overseas.
Also regarding Clinicals, are there any elective anesthesiology or radiology rotations available for AGU students in the states?
Thank you for your time!!!

just dont expect anything JUNGLEs. empty, belmopan is a safe place but still be carefull. veryy hot, food disgusting, people polite.
school, worest on earth, even tho better than nothing, to me i was there till last semester, but i moved to AUA wich is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy better. i started all over but at least im geting what i want. dont expect anything from the school make sure u study by ur own. school wont help u at all, right now they have 6 students, so expect u might be the only student in there. dont beleive all what the "addmissions" tell u, for example if they said we have 100 student be sure that they only have 3.
books, i prefer u buy them, cuz in belize there is no previous students, all left. only 6. expect that u might not have a teacher, which used to happen alot, that be a school with no teachers. or one teacher for 4 sunjects as it used to be.
clinicals, mmmmm to be honest they never say anything about it, none of the students they have know if the school have affiliated hospitals to it or not. everytime someone ask them, they say, yes we have this state and this city and that place, but they never mention hospitals. so ask them first call the hospitals and make sure, and if u got an answer tell the rest of the students so they relax.
a person called medicall17 might answer after me this is peggy allen from the addmission, what ever this person say, call the next day peggy allen and ask her u will have same answer BUT dont beleive till u ask and make sure.
now i wish u all the best.

truthinfo, this is a hilarious post!!! what you have stated above is definitely false and untrue. i had been accepted into aua but their tuition and living expenses are fairly high in comparison to AGU. aua's pre-med program is at least 21 months longer in duration than agu's pre-med program which is why I'm going through AGU. i don't believe that their are only six students at AGU, otherwise thanks for the info!!! i am very sure they have rotations for their students I have talked to students at AGU who are doing their neuro rotations in Chicago, Illinois. is this what you do for fun? bashing agu?

ok when i mentioned aua, i never mentioned money wise i said it wayyy better, teaching wise, education wise, preparing u to usmle 1, 2 , 3. and to be honest if u were accepted in aua and u r planing to go to agu im sorry for u but u r wasting ur time there. and its allways like that u pay forr what u get, but in agu u pay for what u dont get. second thing, if agu were that gooooooooooood as u sayed, why did i leave to a better school, since agu u as u say wow vey good, or many other students left to other schools. also, if u want u can call the students in belize it self and see how many students there, im not saying that from no where, if u concerned to get good education u look out for ur own good, i dont care if u go to agu or to ross, i wishh u alll the best as any other student. i also said its not that bad, but filled with lies. ok since u talked to students in agu who is doing rotation in chicago, il, can u tell me the name of the hospital, if its true????? u say aua pre med 21 months thats if u never done anything in college or uni, but if u apeal ur application they will give u one semester evaluation, and put u right away in B.S. btw when i was living in belize, belmopan, the school tuition was around 7000 now its 5900, also life there is not thaat cheap as u think.another thing is i dont bashing agu these things are true, and i dont hate agu, i never regret anything, i enjoyed it there cuz it sounded to me as many other student, a loooongg vacation. anywaysits ur education ur life, but i would tell u that, if u got accepted in a better place dont hasitate going there, if this is ur only choice then god help u, u gona do alotttttttt of self study, put in ur mind dont depend on the school, and if u can start make some reading from now. the only thing i learned in agu is, self study cuz the country is a jungle, and the school never had teacher cuz they were never beening payed.

to the OP, if i were you, i'd do some research about the school first and read about different caribbean medical schools. apply to the higher tiered carib med schools first, then work your way down the list if you don't get in. you'll get more opportunities that way.
remember, not all caribbean medical schools are equal. with a few schools, you'll be able to practice in all 50 states. with others, only a few. do some research. hope that helps.

I have been accepted into AUA, Xavier's, AGU and University of Lodz, Poland. I have chosen AGU for the reason being that they have loans for available and that it takes less time and I find it very hard to believe that AGU has six students and I know living in Belize is not cheap but I am not planning to drink coke and buying American products while I am there. I know that these medical schools not even AUA students cannot practice in California but in all honesty I really don't care...I have limited choices with AGU but they're not bad choices...Chicago, Florida, Maine etc. they claim to have 200 rotation sites even if they have 50 It would work for me, I'm 19 years old I'm ready to work hard for my MD having the school be in Belize, Poland, Pakistan whatever I've done my homework and AUA schooling is too long and expensive and truthinfo they did not tell me about the semester plan you mentioned above...I have 45 units in chemistry, physics, bio not precalcus and for that i have to do pre-med all over and after spending $35,000 and two years ill be where i am NOW with AGU. I have narrowed it down and yes it is a new school but I attended a high school with only 300 students and I received the best attention from teachers and had an 'A' average in all my classes. AUA's campus is IMPRESSIVE however the curicculum is similar to AGU's...

It's too late MedMen...I've put too much time and $$$ into AGU I've talked to the students there and there is no reason for me to pull out and start over and waste time applying to another school and waiting for their start date. I am WAITING FOR AN AGU STUDENT to help me out here on this forum and answer some of the questions I asked too assure me and the folks on this post what AGU is all about and the amount of rotation sites the school has to offer.

Hey,
I was an AGU STUDENT about a month ago, and i can answer any of your questions that u need answered. I also have pictures of the "campus" the skool has. I put quotations because it is only one building. There are no loans. I learned that my first day in belize when i had the meeting with the dean. N when i was ther i was one of the 7 students that was there. I can give u all the students thats left contact info, u can msg them on facebook. Im not saying dont go... but i assume u have never been to belize nor has the skool sent u detailed pictures of the private housing u will have to live in. the skool doess not have a residence, i was told that it did, but learned the truth when i got there. I say u should just go there or send me a private msg to discuss things further.
Best wishes.

Hey shortee04, thanks for your response and I appreciate you helping me out here; have you graduated from AGU? Did the school match you up for a residency? Did the school give you GOOD rotations in the US and overall is AGU a good school and are they legit? I honestly can live without the five star housing and a small campus I want my MD now and I'm ready to the start the medical school process asap!!! Search my name on facebook, 'Ali Haq' valuemd won't let me post my email. I'm looking forward to your response and thanks once again!

Listen to the warnings. These are not scare tactics. Believe me, I've been around. Go to more recognized schools for your education. Forget everything you've "invested" already. I don't peruse this forum often anymore because I'm busy working 80hr weeks as a resident. But I've been around, and I know a few things about Belize.
Last warning dude. :nono:
