I am trying to book a round ticket, and wondering when is the exact date that we can actually leave the island to come back home?
i talked to my admissions officer and she told me that i can only leave after 12/16 although the last day of examination is 12/10 because you have to wait even after you are done with all your examinations to find out whether you failed or not. is this true??

NO, you don't have to wait for a certain date to find out if you passed or not (so beware the 'wait for APC meeting' advice!). You find out immediately after almost every exam exactly how you did, and I mean immediately. Some dept's will have the answer keys posted as you're leaving the exam and some will post it within afew hours after the last person has turned in their scantron, so you can check right away how many questions you had right/wrong to figure out if you passed. Even the official dept grades are posted very efficiently e.g. our last exam was on Fri, 5-14-04 & the grades were posted by noon on Sat, 5-15-04.

I fell for that same wait-to-find-out thing and almost ended up stuck away from home for a week after the finals, like quite afew other first termers. Most changed their tickets after they found out they don't really have to stay, but usually costs $ to change flight dates, and is an unnecessary hassle.

Hmmm. Not sure. I do know if your overall GPA is 2.25 or less you have to decel 2nd term, even if you passed everything.
According to the school manual, if you flunk any course heavier than 4 credits - which means anything other than Embryo - you're marked for dismissal. But I met someone on my flight home who'd flunk Biochem (6 credits) last term and retook it with my class. So I guess there must be some kind of appeal process that allows a person to get promoted to next term on sort of a provisional basis. This might be a question for Dr Nada.

Here it is; all you wanted to know about how-to's of the appeals etc. process if one doesn't make it thru a course. Pages 53-55 of the student manual. It's probably quicker to just download the whole manual for reference coz it's a query-able file.
