When I started first semester I thought that every single block exam would be scrutinized by residency programs, that every thing you did on saba counted. So for all those obsessed med students you may find it comforting to know that residency programs do not look at your grades, your shelf scores, your deans letter, or your letter of reccomendations. how is this so? When I applyed for the match, I was getting interviews ( granted, it was family and IM) before any of that stuff had been submitted to ERAS. All they had was my step one and 2 score, not even the CS score. I can only speak for family and IM cause thats what Im applying to, so its safe to relax a little bit

Most US med schools have pass / fail for the courses , so the only way they could filter is by STEP 1 scores .
But the dean's letter and LORs can come in handy and most do look at them
Good luck for your match process

umm, not closely. They get so many applications that they dont really look at anything but the scores, resume. How do I know? becuase they made so many mistakes with my apps ( not getting into it..) that when I corrected them they said, oh yea, its right here on it, we just didnt read it all the way through.
If you get a thousand apps for 5 positions are you going to read 3000 LORs, 1000 resumes and 1000 mspes, etc etc. You know they arent. And Im telling you they arent becuase they interviwed me several times without any of that stuff.
Just thought youd like to know

yes , but when they do the rank list , i believe they will need to take a closer look at the ranked applicants.

maybe, but its the interview really. They want to know if they will be able to put up with you, cause lets face it, many people are really annoying. They want to know if they want to work with you for the next 3 years. Also, if you dont have a visa, and you have low scores, you are totally

i highly doubt they'd check every single grade! i've already got 90+ grades on transcript and there are still some more to go.

if you find 'many people' really annoying, then perhaps the problem is with YOU?

well i know for a fact that residency directors comb these very forums taking into account posts and comments made by their applicants and use that for the final ranking so lock it up.
