I did it there. It's very good for a nyc rotation. You do 3 wks inpt and 3 wks clinic. Inpt hrs are roughly 7-whenever you finish your discharges & notes (if you work fast you can be done at around 3pm. You also go to the nursery one morning each week, and you learn how to do newborn exams....you'll get pretty good at it too. You get to do pretty much as much or as little as you want. You can do IVss etc if you want....I didn't have the heart to stick a kid! Outpt is roughly 9-5pm. You pretty much just shadow the residents....gets kind of boring. The good thing about Flushing Peds is you get a lot of lectures. The attendings are great and love to teach. Try to pick up some basic medical spanish if you can and it will help you a lot. Overall, I liked the rotation and learned a lot. The hospital isn't pretty, but the academics are good.

Thanks for the info. I am scheduled to do peds there soon and was wondering if you have any input on their attendance policy regarding going for interviews? I have a lot of my interviews in December and January and was worried about missing too many days. Are they flexible and understanding about it, or is it set in stone how many days you can take off, etc. More than willing to pick up extra days/calls to make up for it, but just wanted to know more about their position on that.
Thanks for the help.

I start peds on Monday too, so I'll see you there. I hear the director is very understanding. I've heard of 1 girl who missed 1/3 of the rotation because she was sick and all she had to do was make up 2 days. So I figure as long as you give the preceptor advanced notice, it should be fine. Have all your interview dates printed out.

I'm in the same boat -- I'm missing huge chunks of the rotation for interviews. See everyone on Monday/Tuesday, I suppose... Why do I feel like everyone and their mothers are starting Peds at Flushing on Monday??
