I was reading on the UMHS website that it is hard to defer previous loans since UMHS is not recognized by the US department of education. Can someone tell me what to do if I am not allowed to defer

You can apply for a forbearance with your lenders. Also, if you do the MBA program 3 credits a semester is considered full time and will automatically defer your loans.

How long does the forbearance usually last? I was not aware that an MBA program was offered, is it a separate application for the program?

Not sure... may depend on the type of forbearance you select too.

The MBA program is through Columbia Southern University and it is all online so it can be done simultaneously with the MD. It is a partnership, we get 10% off tuition for the MBA.

UMHS does not have a partnership with Southern Columbia. Our students can enroll in their MBA program just like any other individual can. UMHS has no special arrangement with CSU.

At one point, UMHS did attempt to develop a relationship with CSU but, in the end, it was not a good fit and the attempt was discontinued.

Davenport is another university that offers an MBA. A UMHS student can enroll in their MBA program but again, we have no special arrangment with them.

Both CSU and Davenport are eligible for Title IV loans. Once the tuition is paid to the school the balance of the loan money can be used to pay living expenses no matter where the student resides. It cannot, however, be used to pay tuition to UMHS.

Is this new? I just applied to CSU and in the application it said students at UMHS get 10% off tuition.

At one time, we had an arrangement with CSU andd part of that arrangemnt included a 10% discount in tuition for students of UMHS. As far as UMHS is concerned, we have discontinued that arrangment...but if CSU still wants to give the discount to UMHS students, we have no objection.
