Hey fellas,
I am really considering this school . I kno this info is def somewhere in the forums, but to make it easier , I thought it would be nice to have ONE thread with all the common questions about AUA.
I work full time, and I dont have much time to scavenge through old posts. hope y'all dont mind.
Thanks
1) What is AUA's first time pass rate for USMLE 1 and 2?
2)What is the clinical placement rate?
3)What percentage of grads obtain residency in the US?
4) Is there an updated list of affiliated hospitals?
5) school is relatively newer as compared to MUA, etc. What makes AUA better?
6) How do residency directors look at AUA? Is it actually established enough?
7). To the 3rd 4th year students: How do you feel compared to US counterparts?
8). Are we allowed to set up electives at University program hospitals? Such as Loyola in Chicago, NYU in NY, Wash U in St. Louis, etc
9) Professors: Knowelefgeable, or no?
10) How much time is spent in Antigua?
11). On average how often do students have to move around to complete rotations? (site to site, state to state etc)
12) average wait time to complete core rotations?
13) Overall satisfaction
Thanks for your time. And I DO realize that this info is in the forum somewhere. its just to save time, and it doesn't hurt to give people information again. It's a big decision, so please don't be upset that this post is on here. If you are annoyed and don't have any responses, please don't post bashing me.
Thank you

i'll answer 7 and 8
7 - from my experience, i don't see any difference in myself or some of my colleagues compared to US students. in fact the program i was just in, the caribbean students competed against US students (Hopkins specifically) a year ago in medical jeopardy and the caribbean students won. i wasn't apart of it but there you go. it's what you make of your education though, same holds true for US students. the tools are there, maybe more for US students, but if you utilize everything you have and then some, there's no reason to think you will be any less of a student because you didn't attend a US school.
8 - yes, they are called away electives. i've begun the process of applying for away elective programs in my 4th year. so far, i do have programs scheduled tentatively but it is kind of a long process. firstly, some programs may not accept caribbean students. others accept some from Ross and other schools but not AUA. we're a young school, not surprised. other programs have said yes but they have to make sure they will have spots available after their US program affiliation is scheduled. that is the way most of the programs are. usually after that, there will be spots available (they leave these spots open on purpose for students of other schools including US schools the opportunity to rotate through) but nothing is set in stone. the trick is to apply early because spots fill up quickly and you need to have them done in time to have enough time to obtain LORs for the match.
11 - varies from student to student
As DocP said, AUA is "a young school."
In fact, there hasn't been enough time for AUA to graduate the number of students needed for meaningful answers to questions 1, 2, and 3. (The sample size isn't large enough for the numbers to be statistically significant.)

Yeah you're right...

Easier for YOU, huh?
ONE thread?
Congratulations, you have just started yet another thread.
I dont have much time to scavenge through old posts.
SCAVENGE?
There's a little pull-down option on the blue bar near the top of the page -- it says "SEARCH."

Clearly you already know how annoying your post is...

Might be annoying for you because either your already an AUA student, or already a med student.
These topics don't hurt newcomers looking for fast information.
some of us have lives and dont really have the time to search every single thread dating to 2003 for information.
and as i recall, i mentioned that if you don't have anything to post, or if you simply don't care about my questions, don't bother asking.
clearly, you didn't have anything better to do, which can mean 1 of 2 things: 1. loser 2. climax of the day = criticizing other posts and reffering posters to find info elsewhere. I mean c'mon, if you had the time to type "go search for posts" , you might as well have answered a question or two.
And to the poster ahead of this guy, thank you very much for your honest and sincere answers. I, and I'm sure others, are looking at schools, and just want good honest feedback.

As oppose to the rest of us who are medical students and have all the time in the world to search information for you because we a) don't have lives and b) have plenty of time.

ATG just said what you should do because you will find more than one answer to your questions.

AUA didn’t even exist until 2004.
And if you had ever tried the VMD search function, you would know that results can be provided in reverse chronological order. Therefore, just a single search will give you a whole list of answers, and you can read as far back as you like.

Your need for spoon-feeding and your quickness to take offense don't bode well for the likelihood of your success as a future med student.
I mean c'mon, if you had the time to type "go search for posts" , you might as well have answered a question or two.
Actually, I made an effort to address the first THREE of your questions by trying to explain why any answers to those would be moot.
And if you had the time to type your laundry list of THIRTEEN questions, as well as to type all your other recent posts, then maybe you could have found answers to a question or two.
And to the poster ahead of this guy, thank you very much for your honest and sincere answers. I, and I'm sure others, are looking at schools, and just want good honest feedback.
Sorry you’re so sensitive, but it gets tiresome to see the same questions over and over again. Many of us (especially those of us "with lives") would prefer to read about current concerns or to find out something we don’t already know.
I don’t mind answering new questions or responding to posts when it is clear that the poster has at least tried to do a little research. (But you are not even pretending to make an effort. You are just saying straight up that you don't have time for that, and then you are asking for no one call you on it?)
When you clutter up the forum with meaningless or redundant questions, some of the more insightful ones don’t get the time and attention that they deserve.
Most of us have unwittingly asked questions that have already been answered elsewhere on VMD... (I really don't have a problem with that.)
It just bugs me when I see a long list of questions along with a couple of defensive statements in the very same post acknowledging the fact that answers are already out there.
