I started at AUC 09/01, and am now in surgery clinicals at Royal Infirmary in Blackburn.

If somebody can tell me how to post up pictures I would happily post what I have from here. We were given a list of 11 hospitals in England to rank choices from, all but Blackburn being in the South. Royal Infirmary is a smallish hospital near Manchester. They don't do heads or hearts, but I have seen everything I would expect to see at a teaching hospital.

My step 1 score is 98/242. I wanted to come to England for the educational benefit. There is no sunny sky here. I have been able to perform deliveries, assist surgeries, catheterize, cannulate, poke, prod, tap, etc to my hearts delight. It has been a good experience because clinicals should be a broad intro that you can base residency choices on. Although they mainly serve to teach proper H&P.

FYI, Mr Evans is comming to speak at AUC sometime soon. He is a consultant surgeon at Blackburn. I have no idea what topic he will talk on but you should go if you think you may come here. If Dr Model is still lecturing at AUC it is worth listening to his lectures carefully. I know he is a long winded old fart, but he knows clinical medicine very, very, well. The stuff he taught to our class I have heard repeated ad nauseaum by junior doctors on up over here, and it is the same stuff you will need in the US.

That is about it. I came here because I think that a physician or surgeon should be able to work without a crop of technicians providing all the answers.

Thanks for sharing your experiences in England...I'd love to see pictures if you're able to post them. Let us know how everything goes, and best of luck with your clinical experience.

Thanks for the info SA,

I am from Canada starting at either AUC or SABA in Jan 05. I am also considering the UK as well as the US. Not to sound too pretentious, I am interested in finding out the differences in salary between a physician in the US vs England. Say for example general surgery or Internal Med?

Thanks,
KDog
