Hi! i am a pre med student. i am trying to complete as many credits as possible. i am going to apply to saba med school for fall'10. i have no volunteer experience. i have a heavy course load both in fall (present) and in this spring. i am not lazy or anything but volunteering at hospitals haven't served me any good. the nurses are just really mean. people seem to use me for things they don't want to do. the worse part is that it was very discouraging plus there was zero patient interaction!! i love the coursework! but if the volunteering and shadowing is really important then i am ready to give it another shot! it's worth it! i don't know if i should spend time to volunteer or just focus on my coursework! so please give me some real advise! thank you!

First of all, you should first concentrate on doing well in all your premed classes. When you're confident that you're making the grades, only then I'd look into working/volunteering.

Admissions committees like to see that the applicant has been exposed to community or hospital based medicine and had seen its realities. If things don't work out at the hospital you're currently at, I'd suggest approaching several local walk in clinics. Good luck

if you have volunteering activities, it helps strengthen your apps. however, if you are not making the grades, they are more important in terms of acceptance into a medical school. volunteer during the breaks would be the best thing to do if it's possible.

do you have other clinical experiences? Saba requires at least 50 hours of "direct patient care experience" (http://www.saba.edu/saba/index.php/admissions/requirements/clinical-experien) in order to eligible for admission. I recommend you shadow docs during the winter break.
