Just received acceptance notice yesterday. Will be beginning classes in Sept. Need housing for me and puppy dog. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Congratulations on your acceptance, Doc Andy!
Regarding housing...I belive that the dorms are full, so all you are left with is renting an apartment. Try coming to Sint Maarten about a 2 weeks before school starts, and you can:
1) search for housing
2) attend the 5th semester sale (so you can furnish your new apartment)
3) find transportation
4) get to know your way around the island
Here's the contact information for my realtor:

She has had much success in placing students in housing near campus. Tell her I sent you!

Jon, Mahalo Nui Loa for the info. What part of Hawaii are you from? I currently live in Punaluu on Oahu.
Is the housing difficult to find? What kind of prices will I be encountering?

Pearl City/Aiea/Kaneohe/Pearl City in that order...
Housing may be a bit of a challenge if you come too late because of the fact that September tends to be the largest class on island. Since the dorms are full, this may leave a large percentage (although you should contact housing to verify this) searching for off-campus housing.
Prices range anywhere from $650 (Rare) up to $2400 per month and beyond. The average is between $1000 - 1300. These may or may not include utilities, so be sure to check what is included. Most of the time you'll have to pay extra for cable and internet.
While you check with housing, ask them if they have a list of rentals that you can choose from. Again, I strongly recommend working with a competent, honest realtor who may help you know the ins and outs of island rentals, as well as which landlords to stay away from.
Do a forum search for apartments or housing, as this topic is frequently covered in numerous threads...you can find alot of info that way regarding anything about almost everything.
Feel free to PM me if you have specific ?s.
Aloha,
I came to the Island about a month b/f classes, but you can find 1 bd rentals for under $1000 if you look around near school. Also, if you run an A/C a lot like me (Im from Alaska!) you might wanna consider something with utilities included (they CAN get in the $300-$400 range - from what I have heard). If utilities are not included see if the apartment comes with a new airconditioner (usually they are more efficient). If not, see if the land lord would put in a new one for you; if so ask for the split unit to be installed.
It took me a week to find my place, but it is the best layout I have seen on the island and it is $850/month (excluding utilities), on the lagoon with an automatic gated access. Sooooo, it is doable!
