I am currently a sophomore at the university of Pittsburgh, my GPA my freshman year was a 2.5 and I have a feeling this semester will be similar, at least a 3.0. It's not because I don't get it, its because I haven't studied or done work and I'm beginning to learn to crack down. I also currently work in a research lab and am a candidate for Howard Hews Medical Institute research thanks to my boss placing me in the pool and I have a good chance of getting it because of him. But I had three questions.

My first question is if I improve from here and start getting 3.6-4.0 and do well on my MCATS do I still have a chance at getting into a medical school in the united states?

My second question is if I did a fifth year in undergrad would it be frowned upon by a medical school even if I did exceedingly well?

My third question is if I did a program like Teach for America after graduating undergrad even with a cumulative GPA around 3.3 3.4 would this help me to get into a medical school?

I accidentally made a mistake on my GPA and just calculated it with my adviser, if I can pull a 4.0-3.9 from here on out I can graduate with a 3.79 overall, I wasn't sure if that changed anything

The average gpa for US medical school is a 3.7 and the US average MCAT is 30. The average for caribbean is 3.3 and 26 MCAT. So if you come close to this then you should be fine for medical school.
