I read about Students for Health group on one of the the threads...People had mentioned that being part of this group enables students to get hands on experience in hospitals and learn basic physicals. However, there wasn't any other information about it.
I am a current MD1 student and very much interested in being part of this group. Does any one know who is the best person to contact regarding this? Has anyone had previous experience being part of it?

The SFH group is for MD3 and MD4 students only. Basically what members of this group are doing, is taking blood pressures and blood glucose levels of those that come in to the clinics. A basic history is also taken for new patients. Most of it is just trying to educate the patients on healthy lifestyles and ways to control any maladies they may present with. With the high degree of high b.p. and diabetes, the first two mentioned tests tend to be the norm. It is good to help develop some bedside manner and get students used to interacting with patients.

Thanks a lot for the informative post! I will definitely be part of it during the later semesters. But, do you know if the MD1s can volunteer at any of the hospitals/clinics on the island? Are there any hospitals that encourage student volunteers? Your help will be much appreciated.

I second that as a MD1 student. I would love to volunteer as well in any hospital or clinics on the island.
