I've emailed the school a few times, but haven't gotten a response. I emailed Ivette, but no response. I no computers can be unreliable there, but maybe I should email in Spanish. After all, I am Spanish.....
Anyway, I have a wife and daughter. We can get the stafford loan no problem, but what other loans are available? I don't think this will be enough to feed three mouths. Any help anyone? Is anyone in the same boat?

Try this:

If you and your wife get the maximum Stafford (about $37,000), that should be more than enough (unless you want to buy a beach-front condo in Santo Domingo). Remember these are loans, and need to be paid back.

This is per year? or per 16 months?

Stafford annual maximum is based on 2 semesters (about 9 month). The school is on a trimester system (12 calendar months), so you get a disbursement every semester (about $9000 max) from both sub and unsub Stafford. Keep in mind that the maximum is less for pre-med (between $6600 & $ 10500/year depending on classification-i.e. sophomore, senior...). Again, all these maximums depend on your EFC (expected family contribution as stated on your FAFSA). Also, the grand total you can borrow for your entire med school education takes into consideration the amount you borrowed (if any) during your undergrad years. Visit http://www.collegezone.com/faazone/757_2049.htm
for details on how much you get overall.
Once you are accepted, the school will let you know how much money you will get.
Good luck!

Hey Folks, in case you didn't read my other post regarding this matter, I think there might be a misunderstanding here about the amount of money dispersed annually to stafford loan recipients. If you are in the medical program, regardless of the number of semesters the school has, you will get a maximum of 18,500 dollars per year. Those 18,500 dollars can be split up however many ways your school wishes, but after all is said and done your annual budget courtesy of the Higher Education Act will be 18,500. For undergrad, or "pre-med" the situation gets hairier depending on several factors such as number of undergrad hours completed (if any) the willingness of your new school to recognize those credits for loan purposes. If you a married couple, then I would assume that you could multiply those 18,500 dollars by two, though I'm unsure of how the married FAFSA would be filled out and if being married precludes you and your spouse from receiving the maximum loan money, I can't see why not, but that's a question you should direct to 1-800-433-3243, that's FAFSA information central, the folks there will provide you with the second to last word on everything loan money related. I say second-to-last because the school will have the final word and it's often at odds with what the way things are done in American schools. Essentially when a school is qualified to receive title IV funds, that's it, the US government washes it's hands of all other decisionmaking outside of EFC determination. The school is then free to determine it's own policy in terms of dispersal, transfer credits, sophomore, junior, senior classification, etc. The important thing about that number is that at least it gives you a name and an authority you could drop on your friendly DR school financial aid office when pleading your case (if it should come to that, which, in most cases, it wont) So remember, 12 months = 18,500 dollars, that's the stafford loan mantra to repeat. Hope this helps and clears up any confusion. God Bless.
Ozzie.

Hello to all,
I just wanted to clarify that at UNIBE, our students can get over 18,500 a year....why??? because we have an intensive program, and we cover a year's material (credits) in two semesters, and we have three semesters in a calendar year, so our students (that are elegible) can get up to $27,750 a year (remember that loans are processed every 8 months, and you get the rest of the money after tuition is taken out)
If you have further questions, you can call our Finantial Aid Dept.
