Did anyone buy disposable speculas to use with their diagnostic set? Did you buy reusable one and resterilize? Did you not use any at all?

I did have a few with me that I swiped from friends' offices, but for the most part the hard ones that come with most kits (they are the sterilizable kind) are fine...just wipe them with alcohol after use, and you will be ok. There is always alcohol available in the clinics for this purpose.

DO NOT buy a speculum. It is unnecessary, and kind of disgusting to re-use over and over again. The hospital provides disposable ones for the few times when that sort of thing is necessary.

Don't think they're talking about speculums, hoss.

I assume you mean the black plastic cones. You can buy them on Federalismo near Hidalgo (several stores), or in the little shop at the front of the ICB cafeteria.

Are you talking about anal and/or vaginal speculae? They are not part of a regular diagnostic kit... and do not fit into an ear or nose very well.

Yes I am talking about the little black cones (adult and pediatric size) that fit over an otoscope. NOT the others !!!
I can get 850 for about $30. Just wondering if any body uses the disposable or not. I want to use something, not just my bare scope!
Do you know what the cost is at the two locations mentioned (Federalisimo or ICB)?

I have 5 of those only. Clean them with alcohol and re use them accordingly. Never had a problem.

They are not that cheap (850 for $30). $30 might get you 80 to 100 of them here. I bought about 50, and still have 20 left after several years.

That is nasty, my friend. Only a real UAG, PMC doc would do that
You never had a problem, but I know you did not put them in your ear afterwards :P
Recall that alcohol unually only "cleans." You would have to soak them in alcohol to kill everything (it takes several minutes of contact with alcohol to denature the membranes of bacteria and viruses). Also if you paid attention to Dr. R's class (The cool Incan) he clearly taught you that non-enveloped viruses are not as easy to damage as enveloped ones. Thus, they would survive any fast "wipe" with damp cotten balls :P

Ha ha. I actually learned a lot from that guy.
I think he said "Do NOT wash them in gasoline and then dry them in the microwave."
