For those who are currently doing rotations, did you get a flu shot? would you advise others getting ready to start rotations to get one?

it isn't Flu season yet. most hospitals give out the flu vaccine to their employees for free so if you are a student at one, you will most likely get one. i'd say if you're actually interacting with patients and you can't get it for free, then get one.

H1N1 vaccine isn't out yet either, should be very soon though.

I would say get the flu shot, especially if you can get it for free. I wouldn't worry as much about H1N1 though simply because it is a more mild form of the flu but again, if you are offered that vaccination for free, might as well take it. As a healthy individual you do not need to worry about the flu beyond feeling really crappy and having to stay home. But no one likes feeling sick...

If you want to do any rotations in New York you are now required to get a flu shot. I had to get mine to hand in my evaluation today with proof of getting the shot or I would have received an incomplete.

NYS just passed a law that all health care workers in a hospital setting are required to have their flu shot by Nov 30th. I just got mine done yesterday.
