hey guys I go to SMU but got dismissed b/c i failed path by 2 pts. So, i was thinking about transfering to AUA. But, i dont know anything about AUA nor the island. Does anyone know if AUA accepted a dismissed student? What is the course schedule for 4th and 5th semesters? Are the classes for 4th semester held all day long or just few hours? 5th semester is in the US correct? What is taught in the 5th semester? Does AUA offer kaplan course in the 5th semester or the students take that seperately on there own? Is it better/cheaper to live in the residential halls or private house? how is the island like? Safe or not? Can someone please help me out? Any info is helpful...More info the better!!

as far as I know, aua accept dismissed students. I would suggest apply and see. 4th sem schedule is usually 9 to 2. 5th sem schedule varies and depends on which location you are going to. aua dont offer any kaplan courses during their 5th sem. 5th sem is just intro to clinical medicine. you can refer to aua website for more info. if you are just coming for one sem, I would say better to live in student housing because most of the off-campus housing wants to sign 1 yr lease; however there are few exceptions. Island is safe to live.

The Atlanta site has a built in board prep program during 5th semester. You have a total of 6 weeks of board prep alternating with 6 weeks of clinicals. The prep is done by a MD they have on staff.

The "typical" med 4 schedule is path 2, pharm and ICM (integrated clinical medicine). Other than path, we dont have any courses that are split into 1 and 2 sections (like path 1 and path2), so you'd have to talk with the admission folks on how your credits would transfer.

So AUA has ICM in there 4th semester and also in there 5th semester (for 6 weeks only)? So students basickly study for there step 1 during there 5th semester b/c ICM is only 6 weeks? Do AUA students normally take there step 1 within there 5th semester? Does anyone know wht is the passing percentage of step 1 in AUA? Also, is there any place where i can look up the sites (hospitals) clinicals are offered to AUA students?

While in 4th semester, you will have daily ICM lectures throughout semester (~3 months). ICM lecture schedule varies by 5th semester site, again 5th semester is about 3 months.

If you've not previously taken 'Doctor, Patient, and Society' (DPS) or an equivalent course (it's an ICM intro course), you'll also be taking that in 4th semester in addition to the normal 4th semester schedule.

Here is the clinical affiliations site, but I don't know if it is updated: Hospital Affiliations | AUA (http://www.auamed.org/hospital-affiliations)

You take the Step after you have completed and passed 5th semester.

There is a sticky called 'The Fifth Semester' on the VMD AUA home page. It gives alot of good information on most of the 5th semester sites and what to expect.

The six weeks of ICM that I mentioned was for the Atlanta site during 5th. The other sites spend most of their time doing clinicals with some classroom time interspersed.

No clue what the Step pass rate is.

I hear its 85% (ish) 1st try, 90 something ish overall.

No idea how that was calculated.
