View Full Version : emails saying "you've been accepted!" then letters saying "you've been rejected"
A friend of mine was looking to come to AUA. She applied & got an email that said "you've been accepted to AUA". Then when she called the school, she was told she hadn't been accepted.
I know this has happened to one other potential student as well.
This is pretty bad. My friend had already booked her tix to come to Antigua when she got the news of the rejection.
AUA really needs to get on top of their game about this.

Not too likely. But possible. What were the circumstances?

Unless you give us some real information about this supposed event, I'm going to have to conclude it didn't happen.
There was nothing more to the situation. She got an email saying "you've been accepted" - then she bought her tix to Antigua - then she heard they'd sent her the wrong email.
What other details are important?
my friend was trying to transfer from a big 4 school to AUA towards the end of the semester. That is pretty much it.

If this was a big enough "mistake", your friend would have complained. Guess not. Transfer applicants are usually not satisfied with their placement decision or misunderstand it. Odds are that's what happened.

Why would she/he lie?
And for a school offical I'd like to think you'd be polite rather than so defensive.

The "friend" isn't here complaining. So unless she comes and explains the circumstances, I'm going to assume this isn't true.
"defensive" = you know I work for the Admissions department at AUA, right? This issue is about me and the people I work with everyday. If indeed we sent an acceptance email to a student whose application was rejected, I would like to verfiy it and rectify the situation. So far I have seen no real information.

Have you personally seen e-mail your friend got from admission committee? Otherwise, your friend doesn't tell you the whole story.

This happened to me... today. I was told via telephone that I had been accepted then got a letter in the mail today saying that I hadn't... So I called and they are calling me back tomorrow with the "details" but said the person that called me no longer worked with AUA... She was admissions coordinator for the Texas region... I am so confused. I feel like I was handed a million bucks then said Just Kidding. I really want to come to AUA but if they can't get their stuff together - it concerns me greatly.

What does that mean?
I have been in touch with the admissions people via phone and have my second interview on Monday.

If you could give us some clarification on how this is being resolved, I think that would be helpful.

As far as a resolution... I get a second interview because the first one wasn't seen through the process resulting in my rejection. She left before the committee even looked at my application and interview - so I have been told. That's all I really know. So, basically I go through the process all over again with a new person and clean slate (sort of..)...
I did get an apology and some words of wisdom from my old admissions director.

Good Luck!
I couldn't imagine being in your shoes. Hopefully they have this issue solved.

Thank you! It has been trying... but I have faith that everything will turn out like it's supposed to be! Second chances are imperative in life - on my side and theirs! So wish me luck, I will know something after Monday!

Wow so the school made a mistake to that caliber huh?
Let us know if you do not get in, maybe some "ideas" can be thrown your way.
Cheers
